Michael Brown’s Magic Money

The next set of D.C. campaign finance reports are due in two days, and it looks like former Councilmember Michael Brown could be reporting a tidy haul.

Brown doesn't have a figure of how much he's raised immediately available, but he's been on a fundraising tear this last week.

Brown says he was in Los Angeles on Monday for a fundraiser whose invitations listed Lakers great Magic Johnson as a special guest. Johnson wasn't able to attend the event but will be making a donation to the campaign, Brown says.

Brown says his father, former Commerce Secretary Ron Brown, was a mentor to Johnson ("in business, not basketball").

Brown said he took a redeye back from L.A. Monday for a Tuesday fundraiser with federal government types on Capitol Hill. And last night, lobbyist David Wilmot's house was packed with deep pocketed power players in local government for yet another Brown fundraiser.

"The line at the check table was long," Brown says.

Brown says he's also raising money from Latino, LGBT, and labor sources. He says donors have been more eager to give since he qualified for the ballot and the Office of Campaign Finance cleared him of any wrongdoing during last year's race, in which Brown accused his campaign treasurer of stealing more than $100,000.

He raised only $9,500 in the first reporting period and spent $8,425 of it.

Once a thief, always a thief.

he and Anita Bonds can split business as usual corruption vote

  • Typical DC BS

Hard to believe, but DC will definitely vote this mental midget legacy back onto the city council.

  • The Java Master

A thoroughly corrupt individual. I have stopped doing business in D.C. because I am tired of being hosed by D.C. government regulations and ppl like Brown.

  • GoDCGo

Oh, Lord another "gimmick" by a so-so politician. Let us know when Magic submits the check to your campaign NOT the old "the check is in the mail" bit. Geez!

As far as the "deep pocket local players" at Wilmot's crib, I am sure it looked like the cast from "Lets Do It Again".....Biggie Smalls, Kansas City Mack, Bootney Farnsworth, Bubbletop Woodson, 40th Street Black, etc.... all CBE approved! The old players are trying to keep their contracts in good standing with the city.

I am not mad with them but they are trying to make "chicken salad out of chicken shit"!

    New leadership is needed!

  • truth hurts

All players ante up! One city.

  • DC Guy

I can understand a presidential candidate needing to travel the country to raise money for their race. A DC Councilmember? All that tells me is that few in the District support this guy so he has to go elsewhere to find cash.

HIS BULLSHIT IS MINOR IN COMPARISON TO GRAHAM, GAYTANIA, EVANS AND WELLS. I THINK HE HAS INSIDE TRACK TO REGAINING A SEAT.

THE ONLY THING TROUBLING TO ME IS HIS LYING ABOUT HIS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ACCOLADES.

@GODCGO-GREAT COMMENT! ANYTIME YOU CAN NAME DROP 40TH ST BLACK AND BOOTNEY FARNSWORTH INTO CONVO WITH RELEVANCE IT WILL ALWAYS BE A GREAT COMMENT IN MY BOOK.

NOW IF WE CAN ONLY GET SIDNEY TO PUT THE MOJO ON SOME OF THOSE SIDEWAY SITTIN' COUNCIL MEMBERS;THOSE PREVIOUSLY LISTED AND THOSE WHO ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR A PIECE OF THE ACTION???

    ONE CITY!

  • RealDC

@godcgo-LMAO! Hands down your post is one of the funniest in recent times.....Kansas City Mack....lol! One of the best lines from the movie, "You got to bring a$$ to get a$$" Kansas City Mack said this to Biggie Smalls... LOL.

@noodlez- Agree, his bullshit is LESSER than the clowns you mentioned. But Brown has to know that at this point and he has to get his ACT together. The redemption of Brown continues....he has got a lot of work to do with a lot of VOTERS, not the LA crew, not Magic Johnson, not all of those other non-voters. Not "Wilmot's Lets Do It Again Crew".
Everyday voters are not motivated by him.... thats trouble....but the duds that he is running against are no better.....who is the tallest midget in this race??

Oh, yeah his phony basketball claims are just delusional. Was he on the team? Did he even play? Anyway, he nor his alleged team WON nothing! No conference. No City Title! Strange claims by him and very verifiable. Geez!

Remember, "you got to bring a$$ to get a$$".......LOL!

Michael Brown should not even be considered for public office again. He had his chance. He has his time to serve the people of this city and he screwed up.

Anita Bonds deserves to be elected so that she can continue the great job she is doing. She is a good Councilwoman who provided this city years of good public service even before being elevated to the Council. Anita brings the sort of continuity that this council really needs right now. This city is moving forward and Anita Bonds is part of that progression.

Besides, candidates like Michael Brown and Patrick Mara are not real alternatives to Mrs. Bonds. In fact, they are not alternatives at all.

Anyone who believes that Patrick Mara who is affiliated with the most conservative base of the Republican Party could win an election in a town that has over 300,000 registered Dems mostly liberals and only 32,000 registered Republicans is just absolutely insane. It’s even more foolish to believe that liberal’s voters will bypass liberal candidates to support a member of the tea party. I noticed that no one has presented a credible or comprehensive argument for such silliness. Maybe, that’s why a Republican has not won an election in this town in a decade or so.

It’s time to move on. Move on with ANITA BONDS!

My jive is rusty because I am having trouble deciphering some of the posts, but at least I can say that they are not falling for Clown Brown. Jolly good show men.
