Barry Celebrates 76th Birthday

If you ask LL, there's no better way to celebrate a birthday then getting your friends together at a bar and singing karaoke. Ward 8 Councilmember Marion Barry apparently agrees, as he celebrated his 76th birthday last night at Player's Lounge (Ok, technically Georgena's).

Barry's party did not get in the way of the regularly scheduled Tuesday night karaoke, which provided the night's soundtrack of Motown, country, and, as you see in the above video, some blues.

After Barry was finished singing T-Bone Walkers's "Stormy Monday (But Tuesday is Just As Bad)," he asked LL and the Post's Tim Craig: "You like my singing?"

LL and Craig both agreed that they did, and LL suggested Barry record an album, an idea the former mayor-for-life appeared to seriously consider. (Paging HBO: release a Barry album when the Spike Lee/Eddie Murphy biopic comes out. Send LL a check for the idea.)

As for turning the big 7-6, Barry gave the crowd a variation of the ol' age-is-just-a-number routine:

"Somebody asked me the other day, 'How does it feel to be 76?'" Barry told the crowd. "I said, 'It feels like it does when I was 50.' Except I can't walk as fast, I can't see as far, but my mind is as sharp as ever. My mind is as sharp as ever. Sharp as ever. My vision is as clear as ever, as big as ever."

which means Barry will win this year again lol

  • DC taxpayer

Marion Barry, the reality entertainer, is a joy to behold. Marion Barry, public servant, not so much ...

  • zippyzipster

The last time I saw Barry on a shaky video, it was courtesy of a bunch of G-men and he was mumbling something about being set up...

Marion is such an ignorant embarrassing human being. Most educated black residents in Ward 4 don't support Marion. However, many of the uneducated blacks and others do support Ward 8 Councilmember Barry. Ward 4 has the highest concentration of educated professional blacks than any other part of the District of Columbia.

I am an educated professional black living in ward 4 and I do support Ward 8 Councilmember Barry. I have lived in Washington, DC for 50 years and I have seen firsthand his accomplishments.

  • Dan

Many of the so-called educated blacks in Ward 4 and Prince Georges county benefited greatly from the policies of the 4 Barry administrations.

lol Ward 4 is filled with arrogant boogie ass Blacks, clearly we can see that in how @Ward4NDC acts.

    In other news...

Dan, I never benefited from Marion Barry because I've never worked for the District Government. I've worked in the private sector all my life since graduating from Howard University in 1977. Marion is an ebonics speaking Bama from Mississippi.

LOL@skinsfan83; I proud to be a so called boogie ass black. I too am proud of having Degrees from both Howard and Georgetown Universities.

    Correction; I am proud

@Dan; I doubt that you're an educated black man living in Ward 4. I do believe, you are a country ass Negro from North or South Carolina that migrated to D.C. from a farm.
