Anti-Myopic Little Twits PAC Formed

Keith Andrew Perry, whose resume includes working as an aide to former Mayor Sharon Pratt and as chief of staff to Ward 8 Councilmember Marion Barry and Council Chairman Kwame Brown, has started a new political action committee he hopes will become a major player in District politics.

Perry's PAC, called Northeast Leadership Consortium, was born Monday (at least according to the Office of Campaign Finance). Its goal, says Perry, will be to return the "levers of power to average people" and to weigh in on "races where we think we can make a difference."

Perry says his group will be supportive of the kind of candidates who are opposed to Michelle Rhee-type education reform and can speak to ways to reverse the District's loss of its "long standing culture and economic diversity." In other words, myopic little twits need not apply. Perry says he expects the PAC to participate in the "full range" of legally acceptable PAC behavior, including opposing candidates who don't share those views.

As for the cash, Perry, who ran unsuccessfully a decade ago against former Ward 6 Councilmember Sharon Ambrose, says there's no millionaire mystery backer behind the PAC and he'll be looking to the common man/woman for donations. That's a break from the PACs that tend to have an effect in District politics, like the parking lobby's Bud's PAC, and the anti-Adrian Fenty Coalition for a Better District of Columbia PAC that developer Don Peebles put $98,671.49 into.

Perry says an announcement about what other boldface names will be involved in the PAC is forthcoming. More relevant will be the March 31 financial disclosure form, which should indicate the level of influence this PAC will or won't have.

This more than anything sounds like a publicity stunt or Perry wants to be the big dog in some obscure way. How can you work for people who have been involved in scandals then want to start a PAC?

    You folks be the judge..

Alan: Do you know what the reference to "Northeast" in the title comes from? Is the PAC based in Ward 5, Ward 7, or somewhere else?

  • Drez

    Betting 5.

A PAC that claims its purpose is to return the "levers of power to average people".

Sure, that's what PAC's are all about.

Just lending a hand to the average Joe. Yep.

I wonder who might have something to do with this...

Better names would be "Back to the Future PAC", "BarryTimePAC" or "NightOwlPAC"?

It seems that what Perry really meant to say was that the PAC intends to weigh in on "RACE where we think we can make a difference."

NOW PEOPLE DON'T BE TOO QUICK TO JUDGE...

Speaking of Gray's BFF Peebles, anyone know the status of DC's civil suit asserting he ripped off the city?

Should be ripe for trial if Peebs hasn't already paid up or otherwise had the case disposed.

    I like this, interesting!!

I wonder where these same folks were at when the Unions put a PAC together to attack Fenty and his folks. I mean they down right lied and no one said a thing but now that Perry creates a PAC it is a problem.

Why don't you all just admit it and say it clearly. You all don't know shit about politics and are now only talking about this because of the talk around things such as Super PACs and Bundling have become the topic of discussion. No one wants to talk about the massive amount of money that Obama has gained from PACs and bundling but now PACs are a problem. I hope you all have a problem with COPES as well.

So Keith Perry is creating a PAC. The big news would be if he or other family member don't end up with a salaried position running the PAC and recievea salary payment from the donations. Any bets when the first complaint will be filed by the Office of Campaign Finance against the PAC and Keith? With Keith's history, this should be fun but also a short lived venture!

By the way, Keith lives in northeast Ward 6 near Stanton Park unless his wife bounced him from the family house.

Good to see that members of Marion Barry's political machine have started a PAC to stop education reform in the District of Columbia. Also targeted by the PAC are bike paths, dog parks, lattes, yuppies, hipsters, single-screen movie theaters, independent book stores, recycling, and iPads.
