Harry Thomas Jr. To Resign, Says WUSA9
WUSA9's Bruce Johnson is reporting that Ward 5 Councilmember Harry Thomas Jr. is set to resign his council seat and take a plea with federal prosecutors that will send him to prison. (Back story you all know by now: Thomas was sued by the D.C. attorney general last summer for allegedly taking more than $300,000 in city funds earmarked for "youth baseball" and spending it on himself. Thomas agreed to pay back the money but has not admitted any wrongdoing. A month ago, federal agents searched Thomas' house and seized his SUV, motorcycle and cell phone.) Johnson reports that "Thomas will plead to at least one felony, possibly more. He expects to get a two to three year prison sentence."
"I just couldn't beat the tax charges," Thomas said to one of his associates, according to Johnson. Last month's raid was conducted by the FBI as well as by agents from the IRS's criminal investigations division.
A little cold water: NBC4's Tom Sherwood reports that Thomas' lawyers are in sensitive talks with the feds over a possible plea, but have reached no agreement. One source close to Thomas tells LL that the councilmember and his lawyers are in serious discussions with the U.S. Attorney's Office and some sort of deal is expected shortly.
In any event, look for a very exciting day at the Wilson Building tomorrow if Thomas shows up for the legislative session. If he doesn't show, well, look for a really boring day.

Harry dared to question the practices of the “golden goose”. He dared to air, in a public forum, questionable practices conducted by the “golden gooses” administration. This airing of “dirty laundry” became one of the many…but frequently repeated rallying cries that the “golden gooses” detractors said was the reason the gooses egg stank.
What Harry failed to see is that before you start going after a “golden goose” that has powerful supporters you better have you crap in order and he didn’t. In fact his ish stank too, but you best believe if Harry stayed in his lane and the golden goose was reelected we wouldn’t be here.

What does this man's (SS) earned engineering degree has to do with any part of the Harry Thomas discussion? D.C. Attorney General Peter Nickles is being accused of obstructing a probe into hundreds of millions of public dollars' worth of development and construction projects, documents obtained by The Examiner show.
City Auditor Deborah Nichols says she wants a look at the last few years of books of the Anacostia Waterfront Commission and the National Capital Revitalization Corp. but that Nickles is invoking attorney-client privilege to prevent access to important records.
"It's quite clear that the [Attorney General's Office] is inexplicably attempting to subvert the auditor's authority, Nichols wrote in a July 2 letter obtained by The Examiner. Nichols called the attorney general's conduct "unconscionable and unacceptable.
The attorney general said he was invoking privilege "where the lawyers feel it's appropriate and that the exemption applies to only "15 or 20 documents. He denied that he was trying to interfere with Nichols' probe.
"That's ridiculous, Nickles said. "She's setting an absolutely absurd standard.
The publicly funded agencies are responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars in economic development projects.
According to a source familiar with Nichols' audit, she also is asking questions about tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees the revitalization corporation paid to Michelle Fenty in 2006 as Mayor Adrian Fenty, then a D.C. councilman, campaigned for the mayor's office. The mayor's wife focuses her practice on global technology transactions and does not appear to have a background in community development.
At the time, the city's inspector general confirmed an investigation into the commission, but no report has been filed. Agency spokesman Austin Anderson declined comment. Adrian Fenty has since reappointed Inspector General Charles Willoughby and brought the two agencies under the full control of his office.
The attorney general is under increasing pressure after it emerged that key evidence in a class-action suit against the police department was destroyed after being given to city lawyers. Nickles has been ordered to investigate the destruction and report back to federal Judge Emmet Sullivan. Two D.C. Council members, Mary Cheh, D-Ward 3, and Phil Mendelson, D-at large, have called on him to resign.

So I'm not exactly sure what it is about the "status quo" that you have a problem with. If the "established" status quo is that left by Fenty, I would assume you would support another mayor continuing what he started. Maybe not.
I haven't seen much change in Gray's "vision" from that when he ran as a candidate. What he hopes to accomplish differs little than when he ran. So i don't get how you don't know anything about his vision for the city. Maybe you don't like it and think it's inadequate, but check his website, it should give you an idea.

SElikeme, I don't have a degree. I dropped out in the 11th grade. But do you need a degree to watch and listen to a hearing where a man (Skinner) is asked how he obtained his engineering license and note the man's response? Ahhh, SEis4ME, see I called you by your proper screen name! Are you happy? I take pity therefore I concede. Sometimes it gets to me when I beat up on people. I don't like to be thought of as a bully so I resign the quips.
I must say though for an 11th grade dropout, which I don't believe actually, you're a pretty smart guy or gal. However, with that given, you should know that all attacks don't go without one in kind. And even though I don't know Mr. Skinner personally, I still wonder why you would attack him as such. You should learn to respect why others cannot appreciate a type that you back and vice versa. It should not be the case where you attack people for opining not to your liking. Even though Mr. Skinner was the pot calling the kettle black, still, that was "his" commentary, "not" yours.

2. I can't ask about your disparagement of SE residents, but you spend enough time in certain parts of Ward 8 to feel as if you were in a 3rd World Country. I have a feeling you would be more than uncomfortable in a 3rd World Country. They eat stepped on worms like you.
