  • Good afternoon sweet readers! Sorry for the delay, LL was busy keeping it real. News time:

I Know It Was You, Howard, You Broke My Heart: Did it feel like the Sunday Post update on the federal investigation into Mayor Vince Gray's campaign was missing something? Well, TV's old guard comes through with the scoop that mystery man Howard Brooks, alleged giver of gifts to Sulaimon Brown, has been cooperating with the feds and wearing a wire. WUSA9's Bruce Johnson says the Brooks wore a wire for at least one conversation, though we don't know with whom. NBC4's Tom Sherwood also mentioned Brooks' wire wearing. If this is true, it's huge. Officials in the Gray administration have expected that Brooks would be the most likely to fall over l'affaire Sulaimon. And LL would have agreed with them up until yesterday. But if Brooks is working with the feds, then it seems like the next most likely targets would be former campaign chairwoman Lorraine Green and the mayor. And why would the feds spend so much effort going after Green? Unsolved mysteries: who was Brooks talking to when the feds were listening, what did they say, and how long before a transcript of the conversation winds up in court records?

AFTER THE JUMP: Bring Back Barry; Public Transit or Else!; UMC Settlement?...

Bring Back Barry!: Dream City author Harry Jaffe jokes about bringing back Mayor-for-Life Marion Barry as the District's mayor, as a way of noting that "the current roster of leaders are a weak and feckless bunch."

Liveable, Walkable, Or Else: Ward 6 Councilmartyr Saint Tommy Wells is displeased that Department of Public Works Director Bill Howland forgoes public transportation and sometimes uses a chauffeur when he has multiple meetings in a day. ""I’m not willing to hear that because you have a lot of meetings, you have to have a car and possibly a driver because you can’t park there," says Wells. ""That’s just not the city we live in anymore. At least it shouldn't be."

    In Other News:

    • City and United Medical Center's former owners in settlement talks.
    • Shooting in Congress Heights after meeting over Barry's "ghetto" comments.
    • Ward 5 residents: wouldn't you rather have weed growing than stripping?

Gray sked: Federal City Council Annual Meeting at 12:45 p.m.; Downtown D.C. Business Improvement District Board Meeting at 4 p.m.; College Bound’s 20th Anniversary Gala Reception at 6 p.m.; Reception for Monsignor John Enzler at 6:40 p.m.

Council sked: Legislative meeting to stop cops from arresting people with expired tags is already over.

A wire?! Just when I thought this story was stalled. Could we get a rundown of how you think this might affect certain parties and why? I wonder who has the most to lose from this.

I pray to god that the sheeeit hits the fan on this, and they all go down.

@Jane regardless of the outcome, I hope this is a reality check for voters to leave the popularity contest at home when voting. I did not vote for a mayoral candidate last year not out of emotion but, because I honestly did not feel that both were capable of leading this city. Obviously this proves some degree of my point.

    4. #4

@SkinsFan83 You realize that regardless of whether you vote or not, someone will be elected, right? In light of that reality, what "point" is there to not voting?

As far as the last election is concerned, it really didn't take a rocket scientist to realize what a joke Gray would be as mayor. You needed to look no further than his core constituency (teacher's union, cab drivers, and Marion Barry apologists) to know where a Gray administration would take us.

    5. #5

@Hank Chinaski-SO EXACTLY WHERE IS THE GRAY ADMINISTRATION TAKING YOU?

THE ONLY FOLKS WHO THINK GRAY IS A JOKE AS MAYOR ARE THE SAME DUMB IDIOTS WHO THOUGHT FAGGIE ASS FENTY 'WAS A MAYOR' THE PAST FOUR YEARS!

      ONE CITY

Noodles -- Right on time. Every day you play the stereotypical "Mayor Barry apologist" role that I mentioned to a tee. In fact, there are some days where I'm convinced that you're actually just a character someone has devised to satirize the mindset of "old DC."

In case you hadn't noticed, the Gray administration is so embroiled in controversy that it is completely unable to deliver even its most basic responsibilities. Hell, Gray can't even manage to appoint people to the City board and commission positions. You know...the people who are responsible for taking care of basic city services. Almost a year into his term Gray lacks a single legislative accomplishment. Gray will be remembered for nothing more than corruption, cronyism, and neglect of his duties.

Probably he wore the wire against Green, and the Feds hoped to ensure her and work their way up to Gray from there.
Who knows how far they got? The definitely got Brooks. Maybe they got Green. Im honestly not thinking she would flip, though.

    8. #8

      "ensnare", not "ensure".

    9. #9

Brooks' plea deal is likely in serious jeopardy now. He must've told someone close to him he was wired up, and that person(s) didn't keep his secret. Look for the Feds to invalidate his "cooperation" deal. Lots of one city players will be checking their digs for bugs tonight.

Skinfan82... No chance DC voters will vote using common sense.

    11. #11

@Hank I did not vote for Mayor to neglect the priviledge, I did not select a candidate because I felt neither person was fit to take on that role for the city.

      @Flippy yea, its quite unfortunate

    12. #12

@Hank, I am a diehard (core) Gray supporter and am neither a member of the teacher's union, Barry supporter, nor cab driver. Further, obviously you have a problem with working class groups because all across the nation, those are the people who generally support unions, people like Barry, and cab drivers. And whether you agree with their positions or not, they are a constituency, just like your "white collar" neighbors in Spring Valley.

You and your fellow Gray haters will be forever known as a broke down (yet liberal) version of the tea party. Radical beyond basic reason.

@Hank Chinaski-SLIM I DONT APOLIGIZE FOR ANYONE NOR AM I A CHARACTER. I’M A NATIVE WASHINGTONIAN AND D.C. RESIDENT WHO LOVES HIS CITY.

JUST BECAUSE YOU GRADUATED FROM YOUR BOXERS BEING IN A BUNCH TO BEDAZZLED THONGS TO DENTAL FLOSS G-STRINGS DONT BE MAD AT ME OR MAYOR GRAY BECAUSE THE FAILED FLENSTER COUDNT MAINTAIN HIS JUGGLING ACT.

WOW IF YOU THINK MAYOR GRAY IS EMBROILED IN CONTROVERSY YOU ARE MORE DAMAGED THAN I THOUGHT. SLIM YOU POSE MORE QUESTIONS EVERYTIME YOU ATTEMPT TO MAKE A POINT. WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT “BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES”???? CHAMP THE GOVT IS RUNNING ON TIME, FOLKS THAT ARE QUALIFIED DON’T WANT POSITIONS HERE AND IT’S NOT BECAUSE OF MAYOR GRAY BUT BECAUSE THEY DON’T WANT TO SUBJECT THEMSELVES OR THEIR FAMILIES TO THE BULLSHIT FROM FOLKS OF YOUR ILK.

HANKY DON’T MOVE THE GOAL POSTS JUST BECAUSE YOUR TEAM LOST.
ALSO STOP YOUR WHINING AND TAKE IT LIKE A MAN OR WOMAN OR WHATEVA!

ONE CITY GOING INTO IT’S 2ND YEAR!

    14. #14

      @ Noodlez:

"ONE CITY GOING INTO IT’S 2ND YEAR!"

Second year?! The 10 MONTHS of the Gray administration already feel like 10 somnalent YEARS! Since last January, it feels like some long summer torpor has gripped the DC government -- our own DC version of the Soviet Era of Stagnation. And the only "activity" of the administration to date has been the steady drumbeat of scandals.
