Both Peaceoholics Co-Founders Running For D.C. Council?

Jauhar Abraham, the other co-founder of the anti-youth violence group Peacoholics, says he plans on running against Ward 8 Councilmember Marion Barry in next year's election.

Abraham, the Art Garfunkel to Peacoholics' more charismatic co-founder Ron Moten, praised Barry's good deeds as mayor, but says he's lost touch with his ward, long the city's poorest, and needs to go.

Asked if he was inspired to run for office because of Moten's soon-to-be-official candidacy in Ward 7, Abraham says "No, I was inspired by God." Abraham added that the Lord woke him up one recent night and gave him an ultimatum: Run against Barry, or get out of the way.

Abraham says he's not deterred by Barry's wild popularity in Ward 8, saying there are plenty of previously untapped, younger voters who can sway the election his way. Abraham also says that he thrives on pressure, saying that if he was playing basketball, and time was running out, and he had the option of passing the ball to Michael Jordan or taking the final shot himself, he'd take the shot.

Abraham says he will resign from Peacoholics in mid-August and officially launch his campaign next month. Barry's voicemail was full when LL tried to call him for reaction to the challenge.

  • What the flocka?

We have Art Garfunkel, the Lord and Michael Jordan all used in the same premise to Jauhar running because of Ron Moten and Marion Barry. Excuse me, I need to get a napkin I just spewed my evening glass of chardonnay all over my lap-top.

I just remember it is August and now the slow time for the news cycle begins. I get it, I get it.

  • Southeast Ken

    2 idiots.

  • Bushrod
  • NE John

As soon as he said the word "lord," I decided not to ever vote for him. But, he is not of my ward, so there is nothing I can do. The wheel goes round and round.

This is absolutely expected in D.C., why be surprised. Ron Moten is no different than Barry. Good for him, he saw that he fit the niche, so why not take the throne from Barry? Way to go Ron, nice sense of forethought! I think they are paying $170,000 or so... nice chunk of change. Good job! I hope you get in. In fact the way the folks in Ward 8 vote, you are in buddy.

  • Ward-8

Let me see if I have this right, Husler #1 running for Ward-7; Husler #2 running for Ward-8 because the Lord spoke to him, I wonder if it was the same Lord that whispered to the people in ward 7 & 8 that word just came in that everyone in hell just received a shipment of Ice water in other words they have fed at the District money trough for a long time and to date have not account for any of the thousands of dollar they received. Peace Out!!

  • Simply The Truth

    What an absolute joke!

Who in their right mind would vote for either of these two idiots, much less give them any campaign contributions?

This is going to be hysterical to watch.

    Two baffoons!!!

  • noodlez

Asked if he was inspired to run for office because of Moten's soon-to-be-official candidacy in Ward 7, Abraham says "No, I was inspired by God." NIGGA PLEEZE!

YOURE INSPIRED BY THE INCOME AND INFLUX OF CASH RUNNING FOR THE SEAT BRINGS.

IT'S OFFICIAL YALL THE SHITO'HOLICS RUNNIN ON 'E'?

  • KeepinItRealStupid

TweedleDee his twin?!?! LOL! OH, SHEEEET!

They should both provide free popcorn (or kettle corn) for spectators. This proves that Barry and Alexander know who to pay to scare away any serious opposition. Who in their right mind would want to get into a gutter political fight with either of these two?

  • Follow da money

*NOW* I see why all those millions from Fenty were unaccounted for and how they will be spent. The Delusional Duo better find better wrist exercises (than jerking each other off) to prevent carpal tunnel while they're signing all those campaign donation money orders (in the Gray campaign tradition).

  • incredulous

See the simple Israeli film, distributed in English as "My Father, My Lord", not to be confused with "Padre, Padrone". (Interesting, the title in original language is "Summer Vacation."

In the film as with these two messengers of their lord, -- it is no spoiler, here:

    An innocent kid dies.

Yeah, the City Council promises more to look like the old Board of Education at its, uhhhhhh, most entertaining?

  • Defarge

Moten, Inc. dba Peaceoholics aka Money-ho-holics got $12 million from the Fenty administration to be exact.

  • Jerome

you can't be serious where in your right mind do they think anyone other than a common thug or criminal is going to vote for them, if either of them win a council seat i am going to write every member congress asking for some serious help

  • SEis4ME

@Jack, Moten is running for councilmember of Ward 7 not 8.

  • La Esquina

Abraham and Moten on the council? I'd rather see a return of the control board. Come to think of it, that's what we'll see if these two are elected...

  • tony

Both Jauhar and Moten are making a huge mistake and this mistake may very well be irreversible. First of all Jauhar can't beat Marion Barry. He has very little, if any, political roots in Ward 8. He lack the community support and/or organization to mount a serious challenge. More importantly, he has too much political baggage which will define his candidacy. In addition, he has very little to offer in the way of vision, agenda and experience. Finally, he has absolutely no political base that he could use as a spring board. If he think that the youngsters are going to come running to the polls on election day to vote for him over Barry then he is seriously misguided. Jauhar, in fact, has everything to lose and nothing to gain. He is making a serious mistake.

Barry is not beatable in Ward 8 for one specific reason. There are no other well regarded potential candidates in his ward that shares his brand of politics. Barry is a civil rights era politician who emphasizes black political empowerment. This brand of politics have allowed Barry and others like him to develop a loyal voter base which makes him impossible to defeat.

When will Federal Law Enforcement step in and put a screeching halt to this debacle?

This dynamic duo refuse to get of the teets of D.C. taxpayers. I guess they are addicted.

Got damn! They're trying to squeeze a booger out of the nose of a Lincoln penny.

Is this an updated version of Chris Rock's film "Head of State?"

This is definitely theatre of the absurd!

The only "counsel" these two should be running to is legal counsel.

  • watchingtoo

Babbling the word Lord, God and Jesus out loud to people means:
to brainwash one or others, not knowing God, wanting money and justifying every evil under the sun in his name

  • oldtimer

Attention all you new residents. Google both of these guys or do a request under freedom of information act on thier criminal past. Scarey. But hey, why not the city is sinking and has been going backwards for the past 4 years. Glad I work here and live where its safe in Virginia. Great police chiefs great schools and no shadey leaders. I moved my family out of the city when mayor Williams left.

  • Wendy Washington

    Dear oldtimer,

Your post is half-right. I have a different perception with regard to living in Virginia. It is a matter of perspective. I live in D.C. and I've worked in Virginia.

I see Virginia as a bastion of right-wing Repugnicant philosophy. Even today, it is considered by many to be the cradle of the confederacy where they continue to celebrate the Old South. You know, Civil War re-enactments and all.

Oh, and let us not forget it is a "right-to-work" state that crushes unions. That is such an oxymoron-right-to work.

Do you happen to live in the part Northern Virginia where the sheriff or police chief's wife was killed in their home? That happened 5-6 years ago and I have been no media reports of the case being solved. Sure it is real safe in Virgina.

    W. W. -- native Washingtonian

  • What the flocka?

You better know it W.W. I am a native Washingtonian too. Raised in Trinidad and moved to Capitol Hill without changing my zip code. Watchout now. Oldtimer, you don't want it.

Back to Inky and Binky running for public office, they have a right to; just like we have the right to vote not to.

  • Wendy Washington

WTFlocka? I knew there was a reason I liked you. I grew up on Capitol Hill, with many friends in Trinidad, but now love living in Ward 5. Yes, we want HTJ out but they can keep frick & frack (pictured above) over in 7&8.

Whatever Jauhar Abraham is thinking -- he should think again. Marion (despite his faults) has always been politically savvy, with a campaign strategy (and the machine to execute it) to die for. He has had more successful campaigns than unsuccessful ones.

  • What the flocka?

Child....as long as there is life in a senior citizens hand and metro-access to the Senior Citizen apartment buildings, Marion Barry is back in the saddle again and again. With our luck and I am not wishing him no harm but Marion is going to die in the saddle.

Now back to the black version or Barney and Fred. What'cha gonna do wit dem rock-heads? It's pretty evident that it is easier to run for office than raise money for it. Let's see there first fundraiser will equate to selling t-shirts at a specators event. Uh-oh! I think they have already did that, I can swear I saw the dynamic-duo-of dumbwits at a Que event harking purple and gold tee-shirts.

  • StrangeFruit

@ Alan, can you run for office while owing the DC gov't thousands in back taxes?

I read Peaceoholics owes DC thousands of dollars and defaulted on its DHCD loan.

  • Anonymous,Too

Bwahahahaha... @Strangefruit: Thanks for the reminder of just how nuts Moten is. Unfortunately, his is not a unique case. Barry may be cagey but he ain't got a thang on Jack E. who just excised Leroy Thorpe--and most of Shaw--from Ward 2 and gave him to Tommy Wells.

  • DCDem

I believe Yvette Alexander is mediocre at best, however, I believe that Ron Moten, and the Peaceaholics, have for too long been sucking at the D.C. Government tit. It is time for him to MOVE ON!!!

  • Joey

You think the Lincoln Navigator debacle was absurd, wait until these guys get into office... Stick to the grass roots programs... if they work, then congrats, if they fail congrats on trying... politics should not suitable for your ilk

  • pleasehelpus

If bowser can be on the council why can't they? Atleast they do a service for their people.

  • all of this is messy

none of you spewing out all of this garbage don't know either one of these guys. It's amazing to me that it's the same people that's always here having an opinion. What contributions have you made to this city? Then it's men here wanting to be wendy williams, that's what's scary. A bunch of men here gossiping on subjects they know nothing about. Try reading something other than loose lips and educate yourself, really.

  • dbrighthaupt

I love WCP Commenters! Not one positive one on these two young men exercising their right to gamble on the ignorant citizen, except of course that they have the right to do so.

I don't know, I kind of saw one of them up in the Wilson Bldg. breaking that "All for one as long as I get some" code our Councilmembers seem to have oathed. I can see some tell-tale shows up on the dias w/ that type of new blood; thus opening some past due can of worms the people need to hear.

Oh, but first each shows off their designer ties and special made cuff-links.

  • What the flocka?

If all of this is messy. Then girrrrrrrrrl you must be a hot mess. I am here to tell you sweetie, no one is saying that this two gentlemen can't run for office. Lord, knows they should run with all the gumption that God has given them but please understand that the pendulum swings both ways. Ploooop!

To those who have embraced the Peaceaholics and found that their calling for service was a justifiable means, then so be-it. I just think it is an uphill battle when right out the gate these to guys will have to justify their intellect, integrity, inner-feelings and the plain and simple of I AM BLACK indoctrine.

I know that was too much for ya, I give you sometime to google and respond.

  • all of this is messy

what the flocka, check your spelling while your thinking what you have said is too much for me. I understand you loud and clear. Now, understand me because I don't want to say it out loud.

  • Wendy Washington

It is not as messy as you would have us believe. One of the beneficial aspects of life in America is freedom of speech. Each and everyone posting here, including you, "all of this is messy" can exercise that right. We may not all agree, but this public forum exists for us to express our opinions.

I do not know either of Moten or Abraham personally, however, the moment they throw their hats into the political arena, they become public figures. In doing so, they open the door to criticism as well as praise.

So, if you want to come out of the gate being an apologist for them, you are welcome to that job. By all means, fasten your seat belt, because it is going to be a bumpy ride between now and primary election day 2012.

  • all of this is messy

and what the flocka, u still don't know these guys and haven't stated what you've done for the city. still wendy willimasing it I see. (funny and scary)

  • noodlez

@all of this is messy - THE SLOPPINESS OF YOUR ASSURTIONS SHOWS JUST HOW JUVENILE, IGNORANT AND ILL-PREPARED (JUST LIKE THEM) YOU ARE DEFENDING THESE BAMMAS HERE OF ALL PLACES. ALSO, SINCE YOUR LEVEL OF UNDERSTANDING IS ON PAR WITH THE NEGROS WHO WANT TO BE IMPO’INT LET ME PUT IT TO YOU SO YOU CAN COMPREHEND.

MOTEN IS A FAKE ASS BROKE BAMMA WHO IS PRESSED TO STAY RELEVENT TO CONTINUE TO SHOUT HIS WEAK ASS STORY THINKING SOMEONE WANTS TO HEAR IT. SEWERMAN IS ONLY KEEPING HIS BAMMA ASS IN THE LOOP BECAUSE HE KNOWS YUCKMOUTH WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE A FOOL OF HIMSELF AND KEEP US ENTERTAINED BUT HIS IGNENT ASS IS TOO BLINDED BY HIS FAKE ASS CELEBRITY TO SEE IT!

YOU WOULD THINK THAT JAUHAR WOULDN’T LET THOSE KNOW NOTHIN FOLKS AROUND HIM TALK HIM INTO DOING SOMETHING THAT HE WILL SURELY REGRET ONCE HE STEPS INSIDE THE SQUARED CIRCLE BUT HE TOOK THE DOUGH BEFORE SO IM SURE HE WILL CONTINUE ON HIS QUEST TO SOME HOW POCKET SOME CHANGE.

I DO APPRECIATE YOU ADVISING FOLK TO READ SOMETHING OTHER THAN LOOSE LIPS TO GROW THEIR MIND. I’M JUST GLAD YOU DIDN’T SUGGEST THAT WE READ THAT FAILED WEBMAG THAT HAS AN ALTERNATIVE VIEW.

  • all of this is messy

@noodlez, i believe we've been down this path before. My comprehension level is on point. I will never try to speak on something i don't have knowledge of nor will i speak against someone if i don't have concrete facts. I will again say, before you speak be educated. Funny, because u call them by their first names doesn not mean you know them. I'll ask you the same question, what positive contribution have you made to this city, heck, ur community? I will continue to defend them because i know the truth. i'm not playing the guessing game and letting the media form my opinion.

@wendy, ur right. everyone is entitled to their opinions. It just makes better sense to me that before an opinion is formed, be educated on the subject enough to form one.

  • oldtimer

How do we get the leaders on the hill to bring back the control board? Ms. E. Holmes Norton if your listening please step in and help the city.

The city is out of control and WE need the control board to come in and take over the city. I retire this year and Live in Virginia but I love the city and still own a small 8 unit building, so I will still r
    frequent the city.

Anthony Williams for Mayor, Robert Contee for Police Chief. Why should'nt these guys run for office, has anyone seen how our elected officials and public safety leaders have ISSUES. These guys fit right in - welcome aboard.

  • BlackPower

    The Delusional Duo.

Who's buying the shots for each time they say something else ign'ant on the campaign trail?

  • DeeBestWoman

It sadden me that we has a people regardless of your race are displaying such negativity and hatard because two street smart and well educated Black Brother's have decided to take another step forward to make a change to the neighborhoods in the District of Columbia that are being neglected! I have yet to see any of you that post such nonsense stand for anything!! Yet you hide behind a computer scene trying to bring down persons that are taking action! I hope that Mr. Abraham and Mr. Moten both get elected and show you how the two wards need to be ran! Please stop dispalying "Crab in A Barrell" Syndrome
