Ron Moten Is Not Running For At-Large Seat

It seems like everyone and their mom is thinking about running for the at-large council seat in the April special election. But take Ron Moten off your imaginary list of potential candidates, as the anti-youth violence advocate and former campaign adviser/manager/surrogate to Adrian Fenty says it's not the right time.

"I thought about it, but nah," replied Moten when LL asked if he was going to run. "The community needs me."

Moten is currently organizing a network of anti-violence advocates into a group called the "DMV Peace Authority." In case you missed it, Moten and his new group organized a brunch yesterday at Ballou Senior High School at which singer Stevie Wonder came and pledged to donate $100,000 to area anti-violence efforts.

Moten says he contacted Wonder through a mutual friend ("You know I  know a lot of people, got a lot of friends") and the two have been talking for months about Wonder playing a role in Moten's efforts.

Moten's got plenty of detractors in this town, but how many of them can get Stevie Wonder to come out to their events?

Will Stevie Wonder's staff provide oversight over Moten's activities. Fenty gave blind grants to Moten which Moten's results could not justify. Is Wonder a fraternity brother?

  • Go to hell LAC

OK, LAC, first off all your comment is out of line. You know very little to nothing about the men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated and before you come onto this forum and bash our great organization you should find out something about it. Like maybe the fact that our current City Council Chair is a proud member of this great organization and that the media's still unfounded claims are just that. Funny how after the election the talks about this report has vanished. Mr. Moten nor Mr. Wonder are members of our fraternity and Mr. Wonder's decision to give money is out of the kindness of his heart and for the greater good of those in need. You should try that, doing something for the greater good instead of just shooting off your mouth about things you know nothing about.

  • DC Respected Common People

We echo LAC about Wonder's support of Moten absent of any level of fiscal accountability.

Learned that Deborah Nichols (DC Audior) stopped by Peter Nichols after Councilmember Alexander requested that Peaceoholics be auditor late 2010, report is expected to be available on/before April 1st of 2011, as those millions NEVER competed on will be disclosed.

Now people, please do not put all the funding give aways to Ron on Fenty, know that GRAY (Ward 7 Councilmember) started this fool with support that was enlarged by fellow members (JGraham, MBarry, HThomas, KBrown) once he became Chairman of the Council of the District of Columbia.

There's no doubt that the X-offender needs immediate and intense improvements in communication effectiveness, anger management and overall accounting operations, as Mr. Wonder a polished historic Leader and Renowned International Artist has sanctioned this "Thug" not knowing other creditable non-violent organizations that exist in DC long before Peaceoholics (fading out) now called DMV Peace Authority developed.

Hopefully, Moten's demeanor will not change when he differs with inquiries from the Legendary Artist, STEVIE WONDER.

It is good to know people, but sustaining them for support via Ron Moten can be a major task of it's own.

Truth about people has a way of coming into the light, not as soon but soon enough

@GoToHell, uhmm...LAC asked whether Wonder was Fenty's frat brother. He/she kinda left it at that. In response, you rant about how asking whether Wonder is KAPsi is..well..out of line.

Makes it seem as if you're a tad bit sensitive which tends to make people exagerrate.

  • Etta

I hope the bitterness of this last mayor campaign will stop. I hope that Mr.Moten continues to work against violence in the community. He was a community activitst before Fenty and hopefully he will continue to work for positive change in the commnuity.

We con artists musr keep up the good fight and I Theresa Dudley, married, fat school teacher from PeeGee County knows one when I smell one...I am one too.

  • Truth Hurts

I echo Etta. If Moten and/or Wonder do something good for the city, give them credit or shut the f*** up.

Likewise, if Gray or his administration do something good, give them credit.

Close-minded people who see evil lurking everywhere contribute nothing to our common growth.

I only know three three things about the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

    1. An attorney colleague, who I have great respect for, is a member.

    2. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Brothers Adrian Fenty, Sinclair Skinner and Omar Karim swindled the hardworking DC taxpayers out of $86 million dollars.

    3. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Brothers Adrian Fenty and Sinclair Skinner unsuccessfully tried to swindle the hardworking DC taxpayers out of $37,000 on Monday, August 3, 2009 to pay for a Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity welcome reception at the Historical Society of Washington, DC.

white folks have alot to learn about how the black community operates, and they do themselves a complete disservice in taking the black community for granted.

FICTION - "2. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Brothers Adrian Fenty, Sinclair Skinner and Omar Karim swindled the hardworking DC taxpayers out of $86 million dollars."
FACT - The recreation centers and other projects were built and stand today. Also, the Trout report commissioned by DC Council has yet to substantiate these claims and has to date not been released.

"FICTION 3. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Brothers Adrian Fenty and Sinclair Skinner unsuccessfully tried to swindle the hardworking DC taxpayers out of $37,000 on Monday, August 3, 2009 to pay for a Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity welcome reception at the Historical Society of Washington, DC."
FACT - The $37,000 initially waived was ultimately charged to the fraternity. The misappropriated funds were corrected are nonetheless problematic but did not cost taxpayers.

You should not dishonor the credibility of the real Frederick Douglass by promoting FICTION.
