Vince Gray Wins (Probably)

Vincent Gray Wins (Probably)

The latest batch of numbers from the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics haven't been uploaded into their computerized count yet, but reporters camped out at the office are saying they're enough to call the election. So we'll leave a little bit of wiggle room and say this:

Barring some unexpected change, Vincent Gray has won the Democratic Party nomination, and will almost certainly be the District's next mayor.

Gray was winning by 8,000 votes, with 128 of 141 precincts reporting, according to former City Paper staffer Mike DeBonis, now at the Post. That total didn't include 22,000 early votes, but Mayor Adrian Fenty would have to take a pretty hefty share of those ballots to win.

Fenty just spoke to his supporters at his Georgia Avenue headquarters, and didn't concede. (In fact, he led a cheer of "On to victory!") But Loose Lips columnist Alan Suderman reports that Gray is expected to speak soon from his own victory party downtown.
