Early Voting Begins in D.C. Elections

Eager-beaver voters lined up this morning at One Judiciary Square to be among the first to cast their ballot in early voting for the Sept. 14 primary.

The voting kick-off turned into a campaign pep-rally for supporters of various campaigns. An unidentified supporter of Mayor Adrian Fenty, armed with a megaphone, was escorted from the scene when he reportedly interrupted a rally for D.C. Council Chairman Vincent Gray, currently leading the mayor in the final sprint to the Democratic nomination.

The first person to cast a ballot was D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics Director Rokey Suleman.

DCBOEE will be updating One Judiciary Square voting wait times on its website. (It's currently about a 40-minute wait.)

So, how does this whole early voting process work? That's one question we answered on Friday with "Dear Votemaster," a blog series on Loose Lips where we'll be exploring issues related to the voting process. We'll be answering additional questions in the run-up to the Sept. 14 primary.

I went to vote early this morning at the Board of Elections. I didn't have to wait too long before they called my number. As I was standing there, in walks Ron Moten with a senior citizen. Ron Moten stood next to me. This guy is ghetto street trash.

I don't trust any of the other voting places. I wanted to go directly down to the Board of Elections to make sure my vote was counted and I used paper to vote. They asked for my D.C. Driver's License and they scanned the code on the back of it. I officially vote for Vincent Gray.

Very good WARD4NDC... now make sure your neighbors and family memebers do the same. Offer them rides if need be. This is the only thing that counts! Getting people to vote!

  • Precinct Captain

Early voting lasts for 12 days including two Saturdays. Rushing down there to wait in line for up to 100 minutes defeats the purpose of early voting. The Fenty and Gray campaigns would do better by their senior voters to spread out the early voting....

Fenty tricked people to vote for him last time, but as soon as he came in, he brought his cousins from the other side and don't care a dime if you are alive or dead. Very disrespecful and condescending to anyone not a particular color and rich. All the jobs were contracted out to his buddies, and I wondered if this was tax payer money or his personal bank accounte dolled out to his friends. He can not hide his true intentions, we know what it is.

If you want this city to move forward, vote for Fenty. If you want it to sit in committee while Gray figures out what his position is, then he's your man.

Now is what really matters, all the talking should be over, it's time to act. Whether you are a Fentyite and Motenite, cause they go together, like it or not.

Use the paper ballot - remember what happened in 2000.
