New York for Fenty
Apparently, when the mayor of New York (who isn't a registered Democrat) headed south to endorse Adrian Fenty's re-election campaign, it was just the first step in Fenty's effort to recruit votes in the Big Apple. Some longtime Washingtonians who recently moved to New York sent along this photo of a flyer they got in the mail last week:
(City Paper blurred out their names and some details of where they live.) The same ex-Washingtonians got a Vincent Gray mailing earlier in the week, but didn't photograph it closely. We've also heard recently from a Bethesda resident who got a Gray mailing.
Chances are, this is simply the result of overzealous direct-mail vendors; if someone used to live in D.C., and voted regularly when they were here, they may still be registered with the Board of Elections and Ethics, even if they registered in their new home. The firms working for Gray and Fenty may have just pulled updated addresses for everyone on their lists and found a forwarding notice for these New Yorkers. Which probably shows it's cheaper to waste the postage on a few mis-directed mailings than it is to give the lists a really good scrubbing.
Still, it's pretty amusing. If you or someone you know has a D.C. campaign flier that's made its way to another state, feel free to send it along by e-mail or with a reply to @wcp on Twitter.

You mean its easier to just make stupid mistakes without doing the hard work of checking and verifying data? How many other corners have been and will be cut in the name of "efficiency" and "process." Does it matter who we elect?

The mayor has my vote, since he was able to track me down ouytside DC. With that written, I hope all Fenty supporters are able to vote early and vote often.
