Abe Pollin, Verizon Center Developer, Dies at 85

In case you haven't spotted the news over at City Desk (or every other outlet covering D.C.), I thought I should mention D.C.'s biggest, late-breaking news this afternoon: Abe Pollin, developer extraordinaire, sports team owner, and philanthropist, has passed away.
He suffered from  corticobasal degeneration, according to the Washington Post.

Amtrak Ridership Down in 2009, But Remains High

The Associated Press is reporting that Amtrak carried roughly 27 million people in the last 12 months— down about a million from the same time period the previous year, but still up more than five percent from two years ago.

Madoff’s Beach Home Sells—Fast

Several of Bernie Madoff's other former properties are still on the market. But someone has snapped up his Montauk beach home, according to the Associated Press.
The place doesn't boast too much square footage, but it apparently has great views and is closer to the ocean than zoning laws now allow.
