Shaw’s ongoing development boom is coming into greater focus, with an announcement this afternoon that the city has selected a developer for a District-owned lot at 8th and O streets NW.

Roadside Development got the nod to develop the 13,000-square-foot parcel, which currently serves as a surface parking lot. The D.C.-based developer, which also built the CityMarket at O complex across the street, anchored by a Giant supermarket, beat out three other shortlisted developers with a proposal for about 70 residential units over ground-floor retail. D.C.-based Dantes Partners is also part of the selected team.

“The 8th & O site offers the opportunity to continue the momentum of the revitalization of the Shaw neighborhood, and we are excited to have a development team with a proven track record of developing unique, high-quality projects in this community,” Mayor Vince Gray says in a statement. “The development of 8th & O will complement and enhance the City Market at O by providing additional residential and local retail opportunities.”

The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development issued a request for proposals for the site in December 2013. Developers submitted responses in March, and the shortlist was announced in June. According to a press release from DMPED, the city is still in negotiations with Roadside over the details.
