Fundrise Involved in Effort to Bring Politics & Prose to Georgetown
Earlier this month, Washingtonian reported that Politics & Prose, the current events-focused independent bookstore on Connecticut Avenue, is considering opening a second location in Georgetown. Now, an LLC filing hints at one of the parties involved in the potential deal: the crowd-funding real estate company Fundrise.
On Sept. 17, Fundrise co-founder Daniel Miller registered the Fundrise Politics & Prose Georgetown LLC with the city government. Miller and his brother and co-founder Ben Miller have not responded to a request for comment. Georgetown Business Improvement District CEO Joe Sternlieb, who's helping organize the effort to bring the bookstore to the neighborhood, declined to comment, saying only, "There’s nothing to add to what was in the Washingtonian at the moment."
But the name of the LLC leaves little to the imagination about Fundrise's intentions. Should the plan come to fruition, that could mean a project with small investments—and, theoretically, input—from members of the community who want to see a Politics & Prose branch in Georgetown.
