City Announces Not-So-Short List of Developers for Franklin School

IMG_0848

Four developers have been invited to submit proposals to redevelop the Franklin School, a gorgeous but crumbling building with a prime downtown address on Franklin Square.

Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Victor Hoskins just released the short list of developers for the project, and it's exactly as long as the previous list, consisting of the four developers who responded to the city's April request for qualifications. Those development teams are:

  • Abdo Development and CoStar Group
  • Bundy Development Corporation, Lowe Enterprises Real Estate Group and the National Association of Multicultural Digital Entrepreneurs
  • Douglas Development
  • EastBanc, Inc., Institute for Contemporary Expression (ICE-DC) and the ThinkFoodGroup

Proposals are due by Oct. 2, and the city expects to select a developer in December. The property presents challenges—it's not in great shape, it has only somewhere between 33,000 and 38,000 square feet of usable space, and development is restricted by the building's historic status—but could become a hotel or a nonprofit headquarters.
