Four Reasons Why CityCenter Is Not Central Park

Somehow, a piece of PR for the upcoming CityCenterDC condos has managed to masquerade as news in The Washington Post. The usually excellent Jonathan O'Connell begins the story, "It isn't Central Park living, but it's as close as it gets in D.C."

I'll agree with the first half of that sentence. So, on a busy day in which I'll let a few pictures paint a few thousand words, here are four reasons why CityCenter is not Central Park.

Reason #3:

Reason #4:

These are the views you might have if you live in the new CityCenter. Here, by contrast, is something approximating the view you have from Central Park South:

Google Earth has a nasty habit of making some buildings vanish, but fortunately CNN has the actual view from New York's most expensive apartment:

Granted, this one was listed for $100 million, 20 times more than the most expensive condo at CityCenter. But there's good news for D.C. residents in search of our city's real Central Park living: You can live alongside lovely Fort Dupont Park for a good deal less than $100 million.

Ah, I can hear the development chorus sing, if we only raised the height limit it would look like Central Park!

I also thought the Central Park statement was weird, but I think O'Connell was referring more to the prices than the views.

P.S. It looks like Aaron needs to do some pruning here in the comments section.
