Kiosks Finally Up For Grabs

Sursum Corda's kiosk needs you!

Back in 2010—almost two years ago!—the District said that it would be making available the several little library kiosks that it closed in 2008. Just recently, a request for license agreements on kiosks in Deanwood, Parkland-Turner, and near Sursum Corda on New York Avenue popped up over at the Department of General Services, so put your thinking caps on.

Not included: The R.L. Christian Library on H Street, since it's supposed to get its own request for proposals "soon." Which, at this rate, could mean another two years.

UPDATE, 7:40 p.m. - Literally an hour after this post went live, the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development released the long-awaited R.L. Christian solicitation, separate from the rest. Nice timing, guys.

    And Langston, right?

Yeah, what about Langston. Is that just going to be torn down when the streetcar barn goes in?

  • Lydia DePillis

Nope, didn't see Langston. It may be on the car barn footprint.

Unfortunately RL Christian is a nasty site - used to be a coal storage place and a gas station and there were reports that the solvent from the cleaners also leaked onto the site (multi sites). It's pretty deep too so good luck to whoever buys it and waits for the city money to clean it up.

The Parklands-Turner kiosk was already demolished to make way for the Turner ES expansion. Are they bringing it back somewhere?

The RFEI docs for the H Street kiosk includes an environmental assessment, for those concerned. I always thought it would make a nice spot for a brunch spot; it's way too sunny for books, though.
