New Washingtoniana Museum Will Be Flat and Limestoney

In advance of going before the Historic Preservation Review Board this month, George Washington University has presented a few artist concept sketches of the museum at 21st and G Street NW that will house a newly donated collection of artifacts from D.C. history as well as the relocated Textile Museum. Architect Hartman Cox has gone with a flat and smoothly curving limestone facade that differs sharply from the historic Woodhull Home it'll be attached to.

Shocker: When owners are forced to build structures on their land that they don't want, they don't usually bother spending much money making them look good!

It looks like GW hired Hartman-Cox (a firm that does mostly historicist work) and then asked them to do a modernist brief. (But not too modernist).

Does GWU have a university press?

I will miss the rose garden that will be plowed under for that monstrosity.
