One more through the revolving door: The man who ran things under mayor Adrian Fenty, Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development-turned-City Administrator Neil Albert, has joined the local legal powerhouse Holland & Knight as a senior policy advisor.
The firm hasn’t officially announced the hire, but invites just went out for a Bisnow event moderated by Albert, saying he’ll “assist clients with construction, real estate, land use, transportation, government relations, and economic development matters.” In D.C. development circles, H&K is known as the go-to firm for land-use battles, employing super-lawyers Chip Glasgow and Whayne Quin.
While we haven’t heard of any other super-high-up Fenty officials jumping to the private sector yet, Albert’s move is anything but exceptional (and understandable: He’ll probably be making a bit more than the $225,000 he got with the city). Just a few examples: Former Office of Planning director Ellen McCarthy is now with Arent Fox, former DMPED director Douglas Patton went to H&K before landing at Oldaker Law Group, and former Housing Finance Agency general counsel Rod Woodson is now a heavy-hitting lobbyist with H&K.
