This Car Should Have Been Ticketed $65

Parkingenforcement

My little blog post including this image of a parking enforcement car sitting directly on top of a bike lane has garnered a number of comments (thanks DCist link!)

So I wanted to find out, what does the driver here owe the city?

This car should have been ticketed $65—a fee that was determined by the D.C. Council at the suggestion of Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells. Parking enforcement officers as well as traffic control officers (the people in vests waving at you at intersections) should be able to dole out these tickets.

As to my question about other restaurants that set up valet signs blocking bike lanes, one commenter dropped a few names:  "IndeBleu on G St and Asia Nine on E St....The Park at 14th” club is particularly bad – even blocking rush hour lanes as early as 5pm..."

Yeah, wouldn't want to potentially block the 6 or 7 cyclists that ride through every hour. Even fewer at night in 30 degree weather. Would be much better for the parking enforcement car to block an entire vehicular travel lane.

Or park legally, or, heaven forbid, get out and WALK. If you missed the last post, it was pointed out that parking enforcement requires their staff to park legally, which I see them fail to accomplish with great consistency.

Wow, Jason. Bike-hating much? You should be so motivated as to ride around the city at night in 30 degree weather. Maybe you'd drop some of that weight you so desperately need to lose, and you'd save money while doing it!

  • Paul

Wow Eric - seriously? Telling people they desperately need to lose weight solely due to a comment they make that disagrees with your paradigm about bike lines. You know nothing of Jason's physical fitness. You think that elitist attitude is going to advance the cause for cyclists?

  • Fred

It's not an elitist attitude. It's the snide smarm-snark - the DC specialty!

And fwiw, I agree with Jason's sentiments, not really his words and the lil ole attack, but seriously - how bout we not park in bike lanes? Why's that so difficult??
