Learn More About D.C.’s New Streetcar Lines

DCStreetcar

Streetcars! They're coming.

In fact, they're coming soon. Well, "soon" is a relative term—Maybe 2012, maybe earlier. But considering streetcars were barely a topic of conversation until the city was suddenly laying down rails in late August, we've been hearing an awful lot about them recently.

And in the past week, the city has been speedily holding meetings across D.C.'s wards to share progress reports and plans. Here's the schedule. The last gathering's coming up Nov. 4:

Ward 6: Thursday, October 22, 2009
J.O. Wilson Elementary, 660 K Street, NE
Ward 1: Monday, October 26, 2009
Columbia Heights Education Campus, 3101 16th Street, NW
Ward 4: Tuesday, October 27, 2009
Brightwood Elementary, 1300 Nicholson Street, NW
Ward 2: Wednesday, October 28, 2009
Hyde Elementary, 3219 O Street NW
Ward 7: Thursday, October 29, 2009
Thomas Elementary, 650 Anacostia Avenue, NE
Ward 8: Monday, November 2, 2009
Savoy Elementary, 2400 Shannon Place, SE
Ward 5: Tuesday, November 3, 2009
Luke Moore Academy , 1001 Monroe Street, NE
Ward 3: Wednesday, November 4, 2009
Stoddert Elementary, 4001 Calvert Street, NW

And some more information:

All open houses will begin at 7 pm and end at 8:30 pm. The program for all eight open houses is the same; it will consist of display boards, maps, information about the proposed system, and opportunities for participants to speak individually with and ask questions of project team members. The open houses are open to the public, and no RSVP is necessary...For further information, please visit www.ddot.dc.gov/dcstreetcar or contact the project hotline at (703) 682-5060.

proballdc: all of the studies that show that investment in fixed transit will bring about massive returns on that investment would argue with you otherwise.

It may be a little more helpful if you showed a photo of the actual DC streetcars. There are plenty of photos available online... like at ddot.dc.gov ...
