DDOT Announces Grants to Barracks Row, Washington Area Bicyclist Association, and Others

Yesterday, the District Department of Transportation announced 10 grant recipients receiving funds for “non-traditional projects that are linked to the District’s transportation system,” with grants ranging from $50,000 to $579,500.

Back in June, the Department first started soliciting applications for the program, which had some $2 million available. Entries were due in early August.

Cultural Tourism DC: Planning, design, fabrication and installation of self-guided neighborhood historic and cultural trails and signs.

Friends of Hardy: Conversion of current public alley, located between Q place, NW and Q Street, NW, into a publicly accessible alley rain garden. The alley rain garden will absorb storm water runoff and accompanying pollutants that flush through the alley into the storm water drains and Potomac River, and provide a safe and educational public walkway.

DDOT/District Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR): Landscaping of Carter G. Woodson Park and creation/installation of public art.

National Museum of Women in the Arts: Development of an allée of major contemporary sculptures and related improvements in the median of New York Avenue between 9th and 13th Streets, NW.

Tivoli North Business Association: Installation of iron tree box fences from 3400 – 3900 blocks of 14th Street, NW.

Mount Pleasant Main Street: Streetscape and safety improvements as called for in the Mt. Pleasant Streetscape Study.

NOMA Business Improvement District: Landscape design and implementation to enhance the roadwork occurring on and around the New York/ Florida Avenue intersection.

Barracks Row Main Street: Stabilization of three historic murals along 8th Street, SE.

Downtown Business Improvement District: Improvements to Chinatown Park, bounded by 5th Street, Eye Street, 6th Street and Massachusetts Avenue, NW.

Washington Area Bicyclist Association: Bike parking & valet services, creation of a “Room to Breathe” poster, and bike outreach.
