Bye, Bye Bi-Rite
Back in February of 2008, I talked to John Andrade, owner of Asylum in Adams Morgan, about a new restaurant planned for 11th Street in Columbia Heights. He'd named it the "Meridian Pint," and he planned to open it the following fall.
This was great news. That 11th Street stretch is in dire need of more restaurants—actually more anything. 14th Street, a few blocks over, clearly has its big box vibe. But this could be charming— Dare I say "a vibrant neighborhood block." The seasons passed.
11th Street, which is home to Wonderland Ballroom and Red Rocks Pizzeria, remained underwhelming—still a great plan yet to be hatched. Fast forward fourteen-plus months later, and here's what we got: A post from Prince of Petworth (see pictures) noting construction at the project, and an appropriate question: "Any guesses on when it will be completed? 3 months? 6 months? 9 months?" I called Andrade at his Adams Morgan establishment tonight. Apparently, this evening's his night off. But I'll see if he has any specifics to report tomorrow.
