D.C. Office Vacancy Rate Unchanged in Recession
It's hard to not see signs of the recession everywhere you go. Sometimes, just sometimes though, they don't really exist.
Walking around downtown D.C., it seems (to me) like there are more signs offering up office spaces for lease. But overall, the rate of vacancies throughout the city hasn't changed in the last year, according to the Washington Business Journal.
"In D.C., net absorption of office space was a positive 174,300 square feet, up from a positive 86,000 square feet in the fourth quarter. The office vacancy rate in D.C. was 8.3 percent in the first quarter, unchanged from a year ago."
NoVa's vacancy rate is up to 13.3 percent from 11.1 percent a year ago. Suburban Maryland's vacancy rate sits at 13.7 percent, up from 11.9 percent.
