Northern Columbia Heights to Possibly Become “Tivoli North”?

That's what Prince of Petworth says.

"Currently, there are discussions about renaming the area on 14th Street from Monroe north to Shepherd. The name will be – Tivoli North. Or Tivoli North Corridor. Personally, I think it’s a great name. I know that Columbia Heights technically goes as far north as Spring St. Road but I believe the area from Monroe Street on north has it’s own distinct flavor."

Of course, "there is a discussion" is not the most open and upfront attribution—as more than one comment pointed out. (I just wrote the blogger an e-mail as well.) Until this area gets its own special amenities, I can't imagine who's going to embrace a name change.  And no, Red Derby and its broad array of canned beers will not suffice, though commenters kept discussing it as if it was a neighborhood classic.

The Red Derby is north of Spring Road anyway, it's in a neighborhood called 16th Street Heights. But nobody knows that, everyone who lives up there thinks they live in Columbia Heights or Petworth, depending on how much they paid for their house.

But don't be dissin' the Derby. Lack of keg beers notwithstanding, any neighborhood would be lucky to have such a friendly, welcoming, clean and comfortable neighborhood bar. One's tap list does not the bar make.

16th Street Heights? Interesting! I never knew that i thought that area around the derby was Petworth.

According to D.C.'s real property assessment database, Red Derby's in Columbia Heights.

Here we go again. The real estate assessment database often has nothing to do with established neighborhood names. You might notice "Adams Morgan" and "Dupont Circle" do not exist according to that web site, and I doubt you'll find anyone from Shaw or Dupont who calls their neighborhood "Old City II." Those classifications are only used by OTR. Beyond that, the boundaries of then neighborhoods that actually are present are glaringly inaccurate. For example, I don't think anyone who lives on the 1700 block of Euclid Street thinks they are in "Mt. Pleasant"

Wikipedia has a pretty detailed description of the generally accepted boundaries. The OTR database is not a reliable resource for this purpose.
