Housing Complex: News and Fluff on D.C. Real Estate

Washington D.C.’s Jobless Rate Lowest in Nation

A few weeks ago, I was reading an article in the New York Times about why homes sales weren’t jumping despite low interest rates. One line in the piece really seemed to nail it.

It went a little something like this: People don’t buy homes when they’re about to lose their jobs. (And if I’ve already blogged about this, forgive me.)

Brilliant. The night before, I’d listened to about twelve minutes of bickering about home prices on CNBC. No one came close to saying anything this intelligent the entire time, which leads me to my point:

The Associated Press has an article out about jobless rates in metropolitan areas throughout the country.

Our rate—hoorah!—is the lowest. Boston, Houston, and Phoenix are also toward the top of the list (the top being good low unemployment numbers). Los Angeles and Detroit round out the bottom.
