Responses:Two e-mails: one from someone who just wanted to spend the night at the house and another from a group coming in for an inaugural event. The group was looking at a few options, and wanted to see some pictures of the house before committing.  Thus, no lease signed yet.

Why: “I read in the Post that people were renting camp grounds in West Virginia to come to the inauguration,” says Patrick Holway.  “So I figured if they’re that desperate, we should try putting our house up for rent. Friends of mine who lived in Atlanta did it during the Olympics. They made it worth their while—it was three to four grand a week. I told my wife that we could probably rent our home, and pay for a trip back to Mexico. She was all for it. We went there for our honeymoon in 2005, and then we went back in 2007. Our favorite spot is Zihuatanejo, this little town. Have you ever seen The Shawshank Redemption? It’s where Tim Robbins escaped to after he escaped from prison. There’s like nothing there except for a beach. It’s in between Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta. If our home rents out, we could either go stay at our in-laws’ in Rockville, or my parents’ in Chevy Chase—of course they’re trying to rent theirs too. Or we could go down to the beach. Our in-laws have a place on the beach.

“Restrooms are in short supply on the National Mall” will be a massive understatement during the Inauguration, with 4 million people sharing the same basic need.

We’ve researched every square block surrounding the Mall and have compiled a directory for that day entitled “Where to Pee in DC!”

    It’s avvailable at http://www.whereinwashingtondc.com

Feel free to distribute widely.  No doubt the information will be in great demand!

Seriously? Is this what America stands for? Selling a guide to bathrooms on the mall for $3?

  1. Washington City Paper: City Desk - Morning Roundup: The Shooting We Missed

[...] Looking to rent out your place for inauguration, but worried about getting busted for violating housing regulations? Fear not! According to The Washington Post Mayor Adrian M. Fenty decided yesterday to suspend “requirements for property inspections…from Jan. 13 through 27″ and various other obstacles to renting out one’s futon in Brightwood Park. (*Ahem* We have wireless Internet, folks! And the place is clean! *Ahem*) The last obstacle is the landlord. (Don’t hold your breath for Fenty to suspend other pointless laws, the kind that do nothing to curb the behaviors they criminalize and generate less money than is required to enforce them.) [...]
