This was an informative performance piece, perhaps, but not a play. Far too many lines were simply exposition - the author wanted to tell a historical story more than search the characters' motivations or reveal their interactions. A little bending of the factual timeline would help compress the action and might help this piece become a play. Ditching the narrator would be a good first step - the prop/set changes suffice.
