Fringe Video 15: Fringaoke!

What’s a wrap party without karaoke? Unfortunately, we’ll never know. But thanks anyway to Playbill Cafe for the loan of their insanely extensive singalong setup. (Has anybody ever karaoked “Ina-Gadda-Da-Vida”? Or “Eve of Destruction”? Why?) And to RnR Bar & Lounge for hosting the festivities.

Here’s a medley of brave Fringe performers, fans, and friends doing their best, one assumes, to keep the party hearty. Apologies to Emily (pictured), who actually turned in a stunning American Idol-worthy performance of Aretha’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” But someone—still looking to assign blame—didn’t turn on the microphone.

Now, name that tune…

    Sweet Jesus, my ears!!!

I just wanna send a little shout-out to the person — the male person — who decided that “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” was a good karaoke choice. Though it was, I have to confess, theatrical.

Bye boys and girls! The Cap Fringe rocked the casbah. I had a blast… met a lot of cool fucking people….particiapted in a cool workshop for solo performers down at the Atlas… flirted a lot and expanded into the DC market.

A huge thumbs up on all fronts and special thanks to all the great people around me who made it possible. Juliann and Paul and Bala! This was the best fringe experience I’ve had yet. See ya’ll next year!

  4. Rick Hodges Says:

Cool Trivia! Kyle and Jack of Tenacious D (the real singers of the song “Wonderboy”) first met at the Edinborough Fringe Festival.

  5. Dave Nuttycombe Says:

Rick–thanks for that bit of info. Having the D represented in a karaoke venue was certainly surprising. But in a good way. And I’ve been singing “Werewolves of London” all week. Ah-oooo!
