Vendor Spotlight: Metamorphosis Metals
Ever dream of finding that perfect kite-flying-kids necklace? Or one featuring a tiny family of adorable frolicking bears? Perhaps you’re more of a farm scene girl. Well, if minis get your motor running, be sure to check out Crafty Bastards newcomer Metamorphosis Metals. Jewelry designer Sonya Coulson Rook from Raleigh, North Carolina, offers up beautifully intricate metal and leather designs with a twist.
“I found a few miniature figures at an antique store and thought they would be perfect to incorporate into jewelry. They sat around for a 6 months or so while I tried to figure out what to do with them,” she said. “Then one day it hit me that I should make metalwork scenes for them. I loved how the first one turned out so much that I started looking for more figures, the whole idea kind of snowballed from there.”
Like a lot of crafty dreamers, her road to Crafty Bastards started in her one bedroom apartment in 2006.
“I started my business as a very part time creative escape from my day job. As it grew I started working less and less hours at my day job and more and more hours on my business until making jewelry became my full time job.”
By 2010 she’d turned her hobby into a full-time job and moved her crafting space from her one bedroom apartment to a dedicated studio in downtown Raleigh. With the recent addition of her husband Jackey, she hopes to start creating a men’s line this fall.
So make sure to go by the Metamorphosis Metals booth and say hi to one of our newest Crafty Bastards! And be warned, if you don’t get there early enough I may have just cleaned her out.
