When the baby latches on, Pam is ecstatic as her baby was having [...]

Our Morning Roundup: Petrol Prophylactic Edition

Good morning, people. Today looks to be as gorgeous as yesterday. The forecast calls for rain tomorrow, so take advantage of this day–have a popsicle, run up and down some bleachers, make friends with strangers on the sidewalk.
It beats driving around the DMV–D.C., Maryland, Virginia. Who the hell came up with that acronym? Every time [...]

District Limerick: Low-Hanging Fruit

McDonnell says really, they should
Stop paying for dudes to get wood
The cash he's recouping
While guys are left drooping
Could do the state budget some good
A fix that Tim Kaine pioneered
His budget saw ED drugs cleared
Performance enhancer?
Just wasn't the answer
Viagra somehow reappeared...

District Limerick: The Amateur Dentistry Edition

Some space in your basement downstairs?
Then quick get a drill and some chairs
No dental degree?
It's easy; you'll see!
Diplomas are surely for squares
But watch that no teeth get infected
'Cause that's how these frauds were detected
The care was regrettable
Though it's what's gettable
Cheap, but it must be corrected

Virginia AG Provides Legal Advice To Birther Freaks

Another reason to hate VA. The state has awesome libraries and awesome parks. Even Richmond is kinda cool. But the state also has one lousy Attorney General. In what appears to be a recent interview, the newly elected AG Ken Cuccinelli tried to align himself with the birthers. HuffPo has the interview in which Cuccinelli [...]

Carman on Why D.C. Has So Little Great Ethnic Food

Tim Carman was on Warren Rojas' chat today, and a reader asked him about the difference between D.C. and Virginia's dining scenes. CARMAN:
But the main difference is that NoVa is stuffed with great ethnic eateries: Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, Middle Eastern, and on and on. It's a matter of economics. The lower rents afforded by surburban [...]

Morning Roundup: The State We Are Not In Edition

Virginia! It's probably a 20 minute bike ride from you, yet when did you last think about D.C.'s western neighbor? Was it when you saw a group of young men exit a car on 18th Street NW wearing shorts in sub-freezing weather? Was it when you wanted some decent pho? Was it when Bob McDonnell [...]

Creigh Deeds Wins Virginia Governor Primary

The Washington Post calls the Virginia Democratic gubernatorial primary for Creigh Deeds shortly after 8 p.m.
He will face Republican Bob O'Donnell McDonnell in November.
Deeds won, notably, without the vote of Washington City Paper editor and Alexandria resident Andrew Beaujon. Says Beaujon, "I forgot."
Beaujon explains that, due to this morning's thunderstorms, he took the bus to [...]

Our Morning Roundup: Communism in Cleveland Park Edition

First up: Fresh stuff right here on this very Web site. Jason Cherkis has the cops, in their own words, explaining themselves for the DeOnte Rawlings shooting. Of special note: why they not only left the boy bleeding from the back of the head, but why they never even checked to see if he's still alive. Stunning.
Tim Carman's [...]

Old Dominion Turns Blue, Loses Brewery

It's been a historic time for Virginia. On Tuesday, the state turned blue, voting for a Democratic presidential nominee for the first time in decades. In March, the state will lose its signature brewery, according to Greg Kitsock, the suds guru for the Washington Post. The Old Dominion Brewing Co. plans to shutter its [...]
