Fenty Party Wrap-Up: Wyclef! Usher! Joel Klein!

So Young Jeezy didn't make it.

Word on the street was that the hiphopper, for whatever reason, didn't get on his bus from Atlanta until 1 p.m. last night. Seeing as it takes a good 10 hours to make the drive, he wasn't getting to the 9:30 Club in time for Mayor Adrian M. Fenty's eveningtime inaugural party.

But look who did make it.

The super-duper surprise guest was none other than Wyclef Jean, partymaster extraordinaire, who whipped up the crowd with a selection of mostly Fugees classics and top-notch stage antics. "You guys aren't crazy enough for the mayor," he said early on. That was after he brought the politics in a big way: "Tell me one thing George Bush did that was good!" he cried. "This is my message for George Bush....Get the hell out of the White House!"

The story behind Wyclef's appearance, LL hears, is astonishingly simple: Fenty met the man Saturday night at the "Green Ball" and asked him if he'd like to appear at the mayoral event. He agreed.

CONFIRMED: Fall Out Boy, T.I., Young Jeezy at Mayoral Concert

UPDATE, 10:45 A.M.: How is it a benefit? "Sponsorships," Kohns says.

UPDATE, 10:05 A.M.: A 9:30 Club rep says the event is "invite only." No details yet on how to squeeze an invite out of Hizzoner. This also raises the question, how do you raise funds for DCPS if you don't sell tickets?

UPDATE, 9:20 A.M.: Fenty Chief of Staff Carrie Kohns gives a less equivocal confirmation. Ticket details to come.

UPDATE, 7:55 A.M.: Says mayoral spokesperson Mafara Hobson, "Not final. But is the plan. Could change."

ORIGINAL POST, 11:55 P.M.: This is utterly and completely unconfirmed, but LL posts anyway in the interest of supreme scoopage and rampant rumormongering.

In recent weeks word has leaked out that Mayor Adrian M. Fenty has been attempting to throw together some sort of inaugural party on Sunday the 18th. WaPo's David Nakamura reported he'd been wooing the likes of Kanye West and Mary J. Blige to play the D.C. Armory. Every time LL's asked mayoral sources for conformation he's gotten the blowoff, then yesterday DCist's Kriston Capps called the Armory to see if anything was planned for Sunday night; they said no.

This afternoon, LL got another "nothing's finalized yet" from the mayor's office. But this evening someone posted this as a comment on LL's story this week on local inaugural shindigs:

The Honorable
Adrian M. Fenty's
Inauguration Celebration
Benefiting the DC Public Education Fund
9:30 Club
815 V Street NW
Doors Open at 7pm
Featuring
Fall Out Boy
with performances by
T.I. and Young Jeezy

Is this plausible? 9:30 has a late show that night (doors at midnight) but nothing early. LL made to a call to 9:30 at about 11, but was told to call back in the a.m. Fall Out Boy is reportedly playing the MTV-televised "Youth Ball" on Tuesday night. T.I. and Young Jeezy will also be in town; T.I.'s Web site says the two are planning to play Love on Monday night. And a little bit of IP sleuthing, details of which LL will keep to himself, provides a further degree of confidence.

LL will be updating aggressively!
