Via Dan Snyder's message board, ExtremeSskins: The Redskins have just broke the crust on a new Facebook page.

A random sampling of the comments, sics and all:

Mark: no one did thier job 8 hours ago

Wayne: Hall and Smoot need to learn how to wrap-up and stop ski-diving and the tackles. If they are scared to hit find somebody that will!!!!!! 4 hours ago

Mikhiel: They looked a hot mess!!! but they looked horrible as a team! I would definitely come up withsome major changes more than just qb like we tried during the summer! Yesterday at 5:18pm

(AFTER THE JUMP: And this is what Snyder’s FRIENDS are saying? Snyder buys Facebook? Federer does Don Beyer no favors? Kiddie Bias™ on the chessboard? Huge week for Asian Bias™ on the links? Back on track on the Road to 100 Losses™?)

Jason: Barry comments on point. But the the difference between us and the rest of the division is NO PASS RUSH. Yesterday at 5:43pm

Danny: HE NOT RIGHT QB FOR US 9 hours ago

Alphanso: Do some play action and gets some guys in motion 39 minutes ago

And, remember, this is what the Skins' friends are saying!

Geez. Guess this ain't the best week to open up a new forum for folks to tell you how they feel about you.

Judging by the tone of the fan base, the team should have instead signed on with inyourfacebook, where absolutely nobody's your friend.

Or, THIS JUST IN: Snyder Buys Facebook!

***

There is a local angle to Roger Federer's crumbling to Juan Martin Del Potro, whose last name, for those unfamiliar with the Romance languages, translates in English to "of the Potro." (Heck if that line hasn't been making me, and nobody else, chuckle since I was getting Ds in high school Spanish.)

Here it is: The loss is Federer's first in Flushing Meadows since Falls Church's greatest export, Don Beyer, was accidentally named Ambassador to Switzerland.

Federer's Swiss, right? Or is he Swedish?

Whatever. Beyer's now got his hands full undoing the damage Federer's loss does to US/Swiss/Swedish relations.

***

I learned a few years ago that chess is a young man's game. But this is silly: Jeevan Karamsetty of Reston came in second in the recent Virginia State Chess Championships. He's 10 years old.

Karamsetty sat out the final round and thereby forfeited a chance at winning the Richmond tournament, perhaps because he had to go home to get ready for grammar school the next day.

(My brother Geoff McKenna, a five-time champ and five times as old, finished 7th, no doubt wearing socks and underwear several years older than Karamsetty.)

***

Speaking of game biases... It's time for an Asian Bias™ Update:

Yet another massively Biased™. Shin Ji-yai takes the P&G Beauty Northwest Arkansas Championship title, her third LPGA tour win of the year. Ji-yai beat Yoo Sun-young, also Korean, on the second playoff hole.

And Tiger Woods, the Godfather of the Asian Bias™, wins the BMW Championship in Lemont, Ill., to regain the points lead in the PGA's FedEx Cup competition, a dumbass set-up that makes the BCS scoring system seem kindergartenish.

Just give the damn cup to Tiger. The Bias™, which came to the fore at this summer's AT&T National here, won't be denied!

***

Sure, following the evolution of this movie is getting to be like watching grass grow, but...Tonight in Bethesda, local filmmaker Mike Ratel is having another screening of the trailer of his undone documentary, "On Your Mark, Get Set, MOW!" which he describes as a "A tale of hope, redemption, and lawn mower racing."

The event is part of "Trailer Night" sponsored by the group Docs In Progress, and, as the name suggests, will feature a series of similarly unfinished projects.

Film starts rolling at 7pm at the Writers Center at 4508 Walsh Street.

***

The Nationals Road to 100 Losses™ stalled a bit with a few wins over the weekend over Florida. The Nats have been seven defeats away from the century mark since last week.

But their eyes should get back on the prize tonight, when they open up a series against division leading Philadelphia.

The Nats remain 12 1/2 games out of second-to-last place in the division, and have a 5 1/2 game lead over the Pirates in the race for Worst Team in the Majors, and the first-round pick that comes with that dishonor.

Awesome trivia: Only one team in either the AL or NL will finish with 100 wins for the 2009 season.

Yeah yeah...it's the Yankees.

Seven hundred and eighteen years ago tomorrow, Switzerland became independent of the British Empire, which until that point governed the territory, known as "Sweden," using fearsome galloglass mercenaries (rösti, the Swiss national dish, is named for technique the Swiss used to humiliate the galloglasses after they were deposed—the soldiers were dragged in front of a dais and had to listen to embarrassing stories about themselves told by people eating potatoes). So happy birthday, Switzerland! Some ways to celebrate:

Change your e-mail default font to Helvetica. Interesting fact about Helvetica: Every time you use it, Dell has to pay Credit Suisse, which owns the copyright, 1 Swiss franc.

Use a knife with many attachments!

If at Disneyworld, enjoy a ride on the Matterhorn—after Kilimanjaro, Switzerland's highest mountain, or "alp."

Make a "föhn" call: blow warm air over your housemate's head while he or she is sleeping.

Blast some Krokus! Sing that Yello song. Ponder the indignity of LiliPUT's forced name change! Can Le Gooster get a what what?

Undo your collar and show off your Young Gods tattoo!

Root for Roger Federer. He plays tennis!

Hingis!

Eat Toblerone like the locals do: dipped in a "fondue" of melted Gruyère cheese.

Let's get right to the issue of the day. The winners of the first three AT&T National events at Congressional:

2007 — KJ Choi

2008 — Anthony Kim

2009 — Tiger Woods

The liberal media doesn't want you to know: There's an Asian bias to Tiger's tournament!

***

Woods exploited this bias to beat a field that included upstart white guys Hunter Mahan and Bruce Boudreau. (What? The Capitals coach wasn't in the AT&T National? I coulda sworn I read 10 stories about him playing Congressional, saw some video even. My bad.)

AFTER THE JUMP: Another Nats fireworks snafu? Why do tennis players carry their own sweaty shit? Is Manny Acta the new Norv Turner?

***

To assist in filling digital inches, let's continue pretending it's not Post-Racial America! I spent much of my Fourth of July weekend watching two Asian Americans in the final pairing of a golf tournament in DC and two grown up black kids from Compton win another Wimbledon doubles crown, after battling each other for another singles crown.

These ain't your father's country club sports!

One of many things I love love about tennis over golf. Will MacKenzie, the dude who finished last in the AT&T National and missed the cut by 14 strokes, had somebody carrying his bags all day on the golf course. But yesterday I saw Roger Federer, just crowned the Best Player of All Time with his 15th Grand Slam win, stuffing his own sweaty shit into a bag. And Andy Roddick, seeming tragic even though he just played a match for the ages, not having time to mope or rest his bones, because he had to stuff his own sweaty shit into a bag. The Williams sisters? Yup, a day earlier they stuffed their own sweaty shit into bags and carried 'em.

In tennis, no matter who you are, or what you've been through, you stuff your own sweaty shit into a bag and carry it!

***

How good was Wimbledon to DC tennis? Let's look: Serena Williams won the women's final. She's the assigned star player of the Washington Kastles, the World Team Tennis squad that starts its 2009 season this week. Serena beat sister Venus Williams in the final. Venus is the assigned visiting female star for the Philadelphia Freedoms, and is (as of NOW, anyway) supposed to face the Kastles here tomorrow night. John McEnroe announced all the Wimbledon matches and got scads of face time. He's the featured male visiting player for the Kastles this season, and will be in the lineup when the New York Sportimes come here on July 16. Andy Roddick is the one big name that always comes to the Legg Mason, with this year's tourney beginning August 1 at Carter Barron. Hope his hip flexor, which he might have hurt while stuffing his own sweaty shit into a bag and carrying it, is better by then.

***

With two outs and the Braves having the tying run at the plate, batter Chipper Jones took a low outside pitch. But the Nationals Park fireworks operator, probably a new guy — pushed the hot button on what he thought would be a game-ending called third strike. It was a ball. The game wasn't over. Jones stepped out of the batters box and laughed as the smoke cleared.

Then Jones walked. A hard grounder to first base later, and the game, and the button-pusher's job, was saved.

Enough with the fireworks, Nationals. They don't add a damn thing to a day at the stadium. But let Charlie Slowes keep his home run and victory call: "Bang Zoom go the fireworks!" I love that.

***

Speaking of saving jobs: A guy on Nats postgame show on WFED 1500-AM after Friday's 9-8 loss to Atlanta nailed the team's coaching situation pretty good: "Manny Acta is the new Norv Turner."

Don Beyer has been announced as the new U.S. ambassador to Switzerland.

Gotta be a mistake.

What happened to Sweden?

Beyer's a sainted figure in my native Falls Church, and I'd heard a couple months ago from townies that Beyer was in fact going to get the Ambassador to Sweden job.

That made total sense. And not just because Beyer was a huge Obama fundraiser.

Beyer's also Mr. Volvo! He's been Falls Church's ambassador to Sweden forever through the work at his dealership! He's beloved by Swedish commerce types, and even sponsors U.S./Sweden chamber of commerce golf tournaments! He's helped Sweden enjoy a fabulous trade imbalance with the U.S. for decades! "Beyer" might as well have umlauts over the E's, the guy's so perfect for the job.

So I called up Beyer's office to confirm. Folks there denied, denied, denied there was any chance of him getting that job or any other job from the administration. Then after I posted what I'd hoped was a jokey refutation of the ambassador rumors on City Desk, Beyers staff called me and acted as if I'd mucked everything up and committed some sort of journalistic war crime just by putting such stuff in print. Their over-reaction was as bizarre as any I'd ever gotten from a story.

And now it comes out that Beyer will indeed be an ambassador. Only to Switzerland.

What's he ever done for Switzerland?

Again: Gotta be a mistake.

An understandable one, from my perspective. I always get the two confused. And I think everybody does. Quick now:

Roger Federer: Swiss or Swede?

SEE WHAT I MEAN?

I'm not happy about this. I wanted Swedish Ambassador Beyer to bring The Soundtrack of Our Lives back with him during a visit to Falls Church. Now we'll have to settle for Abba! (What? They're Swedes too? SEE?)

Oh, well. I still love Don Beyer. Obama couldn't have picked a better man for the job.

Even if it is the wrong job.

Who knows what Andy Alexander was up to this week when he wrote his column as ombudsman of the Washington Post. As a vet with decades in the news biz, Alexander might be expected to, like, peg his column to a news event within, say, the past several years. But check this out—-he writes about the Post's policies on demands from people not to publish certain stuff, yet cites no recent cases in point.

Here's the lede:

In the 1952 movie classic "Deadline-U.S.A.," a crusading editor played by Humphrey Bogart is on the phone with a gangster who warns him: "Print that story, and you're a dead man."

Sure, Alexander goes on to discuss instances more recent than that, but what prompted this whole riff? Slow news week, perhaps.

Then again, tough to focus on whether your local ombudsman is following journalistic convention when the pathway just got cleared for Roger Federer to claim his 14th grand slam championship. Yes, Rafa Nadal got bested over in Paris. How, I have no idea. Bleacher Report has the skinny on it, saying it's one of sports' great upsets. "The tennis world momentarily stopped. The clay court world as one knew it ended," says BR.

Yeah, this is so hard to fathom. Consider how Nadal won the Australian—that is, he beat Federer not long after enduring a massive semifinal that would've drained every last drop of life out of any other player on the tour. So to lose in the fourth round to a player—Robin Soderling, and, yes, that translates into "a player"—boggles the mind and the hypothalamus while it's at it. Now it's time for Federer to rule, and to follow in the glorious slipstream of the Sports Illustrated jinx.

Key factoid from Amanda Hesser's takedown on Michelle Obama's lax attitude toward cooking: "Research by the NPD Group showed that Americans ate takeout meals an average of 125 times a year in 2008, up from 72 a year in 1983. And a recent U.C.L.A. study of 32 working families found that the subjects viewed cooking from scratch as a kind of rarefied hobby." Hesser's right: We as a country suck so bad when it comes to cooking and doing our own thing in the kitchen.

Washington Times has the scoop on the latest moralizing about Sonia Sotomayor's quip about having a leg up on white males by virtue of being latina. How many news cycles you think it'll take to kill this "story"?
