The fancy Chinatown Walgreens has only been open for two weeks, but already it's won its first sort-of celebrity convert: Slate economics blogger and condominium owner Matt Yglesias.
Yglesias, who seems to be writing on a post-retail high, is giddy about the possibilities of Washington's shiniest pharmacy:
Now I've seen the future, and it's name is Walgreens. [...]
If a big storm's coming, you know what it's time for: a Pepco robocall. In a call to customers this afternoon, Pepco warns that the approaching storm could knock out power.
"Weather forecasts predict heavy wet snow and high winds which can bring down trees and cause extended power outages," a woman reads on the announcement. [...]
If Hurricane Sandy leaves you without power, don't say Pepco didn't warn you.
The utility is calling customers with this recorded message: "Several days of extreme wind and heavy rain could cause extended power outages."
