The Palin Tanning Bed Scandal!

TPM brings a nice fun scoop from the Palin beat. The Alaskan Governor/Hockey Mom had a tanning bed installed in the governor's mansion:

"On the campaign trail, Sarah Palin likes to brag about how she put the Alaska state jet on eBay and fired the governor's personal chef. One item that doesn't appear in her stump speech, however, is the personal tanning bed Palin had installed in the governor's mansion.

This morning NarcoNews reported that that a tanning bed had been installed in the governor's official residence in 2007, sourcing a Department of Transportation employee familiar with renovations at the mansion. This evening, Politico's Ben Smith reported that Palin had paid for the tanning bed with her own money.

Now, Palin's own gubernatorial spokesman Bill McCallister has confirmed to TPMmuckraker that a tanning bed had been installed in the governor's official residence in 2007, and that it wasn't paid for with state funds."

In other pressing news, McCain finally admits he didn't think Obama really called Palin a pig.

Meanwhile, I heard the stock market tanked today.

McCain’s Housing Crisis

This past Sunday, Frank Rich argued that the problem with Obama's numbers are a) they're actually just fine; and b) the media just isn't covering McCain all that well. Rich also believes Obama needs to be less polite. I agree. Liberals should also not be so handwringy over everything. Take today's McCain gaffe. McCain can't even say for sure how many houses he owns.

Obama has gone on the attack with an instant ad. But, still, Ta-Nehisi Coates (my old pal and colleague) at the Atlantic insists on taking the high road and not caring about this not-very-crucial point. Well, Obama has to start nailing down some sort of narrative on McCain. Out-of-touch fatcat sounds like a logical one considering: a) when talking about the price of milk, he needed to read off a card; b) McCain didn't support Sen. Webb's update on the GI Bill (he skipped the vote on the bill); and c) now can't figure out how many houses he owns!

Come on. Obama supporters need to toughen up.
