Teenager Fatally Stabbed Near Target; Another Kid Stabbed With An Ice Pick

The Washington Post is reporting that yesterday afternoon, a teenager was fatally stabbed at 14th and Newton Streets NW. This is a particularly busy intersection with plenty of pedestrian foot traffic. There are tons of people either waiting at the bus stops along 14th Street or milling about businesses like Target, Sticky Fingers, Best Buy, etc. The Post writes:

"The teenager was found about 4:30 p.m. in the roadway near 14th and Newton streets NW. Officials said their best information indicated that he was 14 or 15. His name was not immediately available....

A witness said that about the time of the stabbing, he saw several youths, one with a knife, two others with belts around their fists, urging each other on as they raced up 14th Street."

This follows the homicide on Kenyon Street. And the fatal shooting on Champlain Street. Both happened earlier this week.

Stop E-Mailing Peter Nickles: End The Witch Hunt

D.C. Police are sick of one teenage robbery suspect who has allegedly committed multiple crimes. The police department is so sick of this kid, they've got you all pissed off too. The police--OK, Third District Inspector Edward Delgado--wants you to email Peter Nickles to do who knows what to this kid. You want this thug in cuffs. You want this thug behind bars. And maybe worse. Prince of Petworth has joined the witch hunt. OffSeventh has raised a torch. The No BS Zone has started marching in lockstep, too.

Well, stop it. If you bothered to read the fine print of the Post piece, you would know that this teenager has been convicted of nothing, and was recently ruled mentally incompetent to stand trial. Yes, there are 21 robberies attached to his undisclosed name. But this kid doesn't need a bunk in a crummy, over-crowded youth facility.

Anacostia High Students Fight It Out

Five students were hospitalized this afternoon after a fight broke out at Anacostia High, according to a Washington Post account:

"Police said the violence was part of a series of disturbances today at Anacostia High School, on 16th Street SE. Three students suffered superficial cuts, apparently caused by a knife, one had an asthma attack, and another was hurt in the fight, they said.

Assistant Police Chief Diane Groomes, who was on the scene, said that the trouble started at 12:40 p.m. when students got into a fight on the second floor of the school. As that fight was ending, someone started a small fire, officials said. One report said the fire was in a trash can, but additional details were not immediately available."

Sad. That's just one more bit of juvenile mayhem that's been going on lately. Now we know what Colbert King's next column will be about.
