Sgt. David Schlosser just gave a briefing on this afternoon's shooting at the U.S. Holocaust Museum. Here are the key points:

*A lone gunman entered the building around 12:50 p.m. The man was armed with a long gun, and it's unclear at this point whether it was a rifle or a shotgun.

*Shortly after entering, the gunman opened fire and at least one security officer returned fire. The shooter was wounded and is now in "pretty serious" condition, according to Schlosser.

*One of the security officers appears to have been wounded as well. No fatalities have been reported at this point.

*There is no reason to believe that another shooter is on the loose. The museum has been "cleared," and a secondary sweep of the building is underway.

David Unruh, who came to Washington for his 47th wedding anniversary, was waiting to enter the building when he heard at least five shots. The security guards thereupon ordered everyone to hit the floor. "It was terror. We were frightened," says Unruh, who glimpsed a large gentleman in a corner, trying to shield his children.

OK, so that quote is actually from Extras' Kate Winslet, when her character is giving a Tropic Thunder-esque speech on a surefire way to win an Academy Award. The full clip of her appearance on Ricky Gervais' show is here, with the Holocaust talk around the three-minute mark:

It was all I could think about while sitting through the first of Winslet's two holidays releases, The Reader. That, and her gigantic nipples. And the groceries I needed to pick up on the way home. It wasn't the most fascinating movie, despite the fact that all she does is bone a 15-year-old during half of it. Oscar!

There is just so much out there crazy talk among McCain supporters/volunteers/paid staff/people-old-enough-to-know-better that it has become difficult to pick out just one item for a morning blog post. McCain's People–and that includes, you Gov. Palin–should read yesterday's Frank Rich column. Just sayin'.

Here's my McCain Camp Crazy Moment of the Weekend:

The Associated Press is reporting that something called the "Republican Federal Committee of PA – Victory 2008" sent out an e-mail to Jewish voters in Pennsylvania. The AP goes on to quote the e-mail. Warning! It is scary! Warning! It is really, really stupid. Warning! It is something that even John McCain would declare as stupid.

"'Jewish Americans cannot afford to make the wrong decision on Tuesday, November 4th, 2008,' the e-mail reads. 'Many of our ancestors ignored the warning signs in the 1930s and 1940s and made a tragic mistake. Let's not make a similar one this year!... '

It warns 'Fellow Jewish Voters' of the danger of a second Holocaust due to the threats to Israel from its neighbors and touts Republican presidential candidate John McCain's qualifications over those of Obama."

Republicans say they have fired the guy who sent the e-mail and are issuing a "correction" to the 75,000 voters who got the e-mail.

The AP digs up more intrigue or just GOP lameness. I can't decide.

It reports:

"Political consultant Bryan Rudnick was identified as the person responsible for it. Rudnick, reached Saturday night, confirmed that he no longer works for the party, which employed him a few weeks ago as a consultant to do outreach to Jewish voters.

'I had authorization from party officials' to send the e-mail, Rudnick said, but he declined to say who had signed off on it. 'I'm not looking to drag anyone else through the mud, so I'm not naming names right now,' he said.

The e-mail also accuses Obama of teaching members of the community group ACORN 'to commit voter registration fraud' during his years as a community activist."
