Though passengers aren’t allowed to ride yet, streetcar vehicles are still test-running along H Street and Benning Road NE—and the city is still issuing tickets.

Between July 14, 2014 and Feb. 18, 2015, the D.C. Department of Public Works issued 640 tickets for blocking the streetcar’s guideway and 68 for blocking a platform, according to an oversight document submitted to the D.C. Council. The fine for blocking the streetcar’s path—which includes parking on or over the white line that delineates a parking space—is $100.

Before leaving office, former Mayor Vince Gray set yet another deadline for the start of passenger service, Jan. 19. With that date past, Mayor Muriel Bowser‘s administration has declined to set another deadline.

But D.C.’s parking wars extend far beyond the streetcar tracks in Northeast D.C. So far in fiscal year 2015, DPW has issued 70,919 tickets for an expired meter, 20,177 for failure to display current tags, and 17,856 “Registration of Out-of-State Automobiles” warnings.
