Mayor Vince Gray made Millennial Week an official thing today, which means this farcical celebration honoring the accomplishments of 20- and early-30-somethings officially now has the support of a 71-year old chief executive.

“Whereas, according to the United States Census, Millennials are the largest generation in the history of the United States and Washington DC is the first of the five top cities to have the most Millennials, ” Gray wrote in his proclamation.

Millennial Week runs from June 2 to 8 and will “present the most meaningful ideas and trends that reflect the impact of Millennials on culture, enterprise and society,” according to its website. Locally, the group behind the event is collaborating with organizations like Rock the Vote, Brightest Young Things, 1776, Capital Cause, Ladies DC, Young Government Leaders, and the Millennial Action Project. You can register for Millennial Week events here.

“From a political town hall to a business pitch competition to community service opportunities (interspersed with achievement awards, avant-garde food and drink and, of course, charging stations for your smart phones), Millennial Week DC embodies what the world has come to fear and love of Generation Y,” the Millennial Week website reads. Fear!

Now, if only millennials voted for mayor, this could have been a masterful political proclamation.
