MPD Officer Arrested for Allegedly Stealing From Evidence Room

Another D.C. cop is in trouble with the law.

Twenty four-year police force veteran Rodney Williams was arrested and charged with second-degree theft Thursday for stealing evidence from the Evidence Control Branch, MPD said Friday.

Officials would not reveal what he stole, but said a tip from another department employee launched the investigation.

Williams is just the latest in a string of arrested officers, including one who was charged with running a prostitution operation involving teenage girls. Police department figures, according to the AP, show that 110 police officers have been arrested for both on- and off-duty behavior since 2009, though many of these arrests ended in acquittals or involved traffic violations.

  • MarionBarry’s Class

It is amazing how many DC cops hired during the "Barry Surge" in the early 90's are completly thuged out felons, and how many have been in trouble the past couple of years. We pulled them off the street even though they had records for burglery and assault, gave them a gun and a badge and stuck them on the street. They just parade around town, pimping out children, selling drugs, killing people etc.

What I find funny is that it is always that's the class of 89-90. Well a significant number of officers were hired during that time period including the Chief, 3 Assistant Chiefs. Most of the Commanders, Captain and Lieutenants. They served this city during a crack and murder epidemic. Believe me and I know you heard it before that it is a few bad apples. Most MPD officers keep their noses clean, work under horrible conditions, serve what for the most part is an ungrateful city. Have not seen even a cost of living increase in years. This is the time some jack off comes up and says MPD makes more than other cities. The starting salary for MPD is comparatively good, but it takes MPD officer 18 years to max out, most cities like New York its 5 years. You get what you pay for.
