Man Crashes Into CVS, Steals ATM, Is Still on the Loose
There are probably less conspicuous ways to steal cash: Around 4 a.m. this morning, a man crashed his car into the front door of a CVS at 3601 12th St. NE, stole an ATM from the store, and is—impressively!—still on the loose.
The multifaceted crash and theft occurred at around 4 a.m. this morning. According to Metropolitan Police Department report, there is only one male suspect and the type of vehicle he was driving is unknown. The CVS was not open at the time.
MPD's report puts the physical damage to the store at around $3,000 and the value of the USAA ATM at $5,000, which, given how much the devices actually cost, makes you wonder: Was the cash the man managed to steal worth the hassle of crashing through a wall?
Asked why the police reporting did not include a line item for cash, a police spokesman said either investigators are still determining how much cash was in the ATM or the machine was cashless.
