Metro Employee Charged With Stealing Fare Cards

Not every Metro thief can get goods as valuable as defibrillators. Sometimes, the best you can do is fare cards with a few cents of value.

Today, Metro Transit Police charged Metrorail station manager Prince Egyir with embezzlement for allegedly collecting paper fare cards with insufficient fare from riders. According to Metro Transit Police, Egyir assembled these minimally valuable fare cards and transferred their value onto SmarTrip cards in order to resell them.

When Egyir was arrested yesterday, he had 10 paper fare cards on him. He was suspended and appeared today in Alexandria General District Court.
