Armed March to D.C. Will Continue, Despite Police Warning

D.C. police chief Cathy Lanier took to News Channel 8 yesterday to warn  participants of an armed march into D.C. on July 4 that police would meet them at the Virginia border. But that isn't dissuading organizer and talk show host Adam Kokesh, who tells City Desk he still plans to march.

While Kokesh says he's willing to peacefully submit to arrest if his gun rights march is blocked by law enforcement, he still plans to go ahead with the march. At worst, he thinks criminal charges against him and other demonstrators could lay the ground for a Second Amendment court fight.

And Kokesh won't just be facing off with law enforcement—he'll be standing with them. He claims that he'll be joined by active police officers from jurisdictions across the country in the protest, which reveals the disparity between what he calls, very Game of Thrones-ingly, "the oath keepers on our side and the oath-breakers on their side of the line."

So far, around 2,700 people have signed up on Facebook for the march. Kokesh says he can conduct the protest with a tenth of that.

"We're assuming it'll have the critical mass to pull this off," he says.

    Yeah that Adam Kokesh guy is a moron. Violating D.C. laws has nothing to do with non-existent federal gun regulation.

    "Oath Keepers"? "Oath Breakers"? All politics aside, the gun rights activists lose style points for their pretentiousness and pomposity. You can't talk about the 2nd amendment for 5 minutes without some redneck busting out terms like the above, or "Tyranny" or "Liberty". Bring up gun rights and all of a sudden every gun-lovin' Skol-chewin' good ol' boy transforms (in his mind anyway) into freakin' Paul Revere.

    so this could get interesting, from the FB page:

    "This is now a call for mass civil disobedience on July 4th anywhere in Washington, DC. Break whatever unconstitutional law you choose. "Law Enforcement" has made it clear they have no respect for the Constitution and so we will shut them down by overwhelming them. I will still be crossing the line on the Memorial Bridge and facing up to 5 years in jail."

    Ben -

    Amazing how principles of human well being can turn into "losing style points," only a massive pussy would ever think that one up. The truth is, no person will ever give a damn about you.

  • Bill

    The 2nd Amendment is all about preventing tyranny - the whole purpose of it was to allow the people to stop government from becoming overreaching. Not to go hunting. Not to sit locked in a closet. It's there to protect the people from the government.

    @Ben,

    So you have to be some sort of "redneck" to be involved in this? Do you have any idea how many veterans, police and law abiding citizens are involved in this? But because you do not agree with their argument, you insult and belittle them.

    While you show a massive amount of ignorance with your comments, you should consider the very reason why words like "tyranny" or "liberty" keep coming up, or why it is illegal to open carry in DC to begin with.

    Your cowardice is disgusting and your complicity is appalling. These men (and women) you are so quick to dismiss are the ones taking their oaths to the Constitution seriously, while clowns like yourself are the exact reason why things like the Patriot Act and the NDAA are even possible. They have served and continue to serve their country honorably. What have you done?

    You should be ashamed.

    Why are guns rights activists always assumed to be Southern Hillbilly's with half a brain cell? In fact there are many very intelligent, very successful, and very pro US Constitutional citizens that are pro firearms. We lose rights and liberties more often than they are upheld or expanded. As a people we have less freedoms than our forefathers did. Sometimes this is a societal necessity, sometimes it is a government powerplay. While I do not believe that American citizens are in a great danger to lose all rights, we have a responsibility to our grandchildren, and our grandchildren's grandchildren to protect their rights. It might not be the people in office's intent now, but we mustn't make it easier for someone to take away liberties 50 years down the road.

    Whoah, that's harsh man - I thought we were bros!

    @jmorrison:
    I'm not, though. (ashamed, that is)

    I haven't heard anything from Adam Kokesh in a long time. I use to watch his Internet show. Law abiding U.S. citizens have a right to protect themselves and this is coming from a Negro, colored, black, or African American man. I don't know what the political correct name to refer to someone black or brown like me. Thugs pillage and terrorize many D.C. neighborhoods by robbing, raping, assaulting, and killing innocent people. MPD can't protect us and a few police officers are corrupt themselves. I should be able to own a handgun and carry it on myself on the streets of the District of Columbia and in my home.

    In my opinion, a uprising is a coming in the United States, probably on grounds of race. However, folks are getting sick of liberals and their constant encroachment on what they see as their constitutional rights. Things are coming to a head. What a mess this is turning into nationally!

    ".... The 2nd Amendment is all about preventing tyranny - the whole purpose of it was to allow the people to stop government from becoming overreaching. ...."

    What you and your ilk refuse to recognize is that the world has changed in 250 years. At the time the Constitution was drafted, there was no such thing as a modern democracy. Almost all governmental power was in the hands of kings and generals. There might have been a time when common people would have needed the tools to resist it. But for a quarter of a millennium, we have elected our government. There has never been a time, even during the Civil War, even during the World Wars, when national elections were cancelled. If anyone ever had reason to try to do that it would have been Lincoln, and Lincoln ran for re-election. The fact that the American people have twice elected a moderate (NOT so liberal) black man over right-wing extremists does not mean that the "government" is threatening anybody's rights. The "government" can't do anything except as authorized by legislation passed by a majority of the people's representatives and signed by the president who won the most recent presidential election. The closest we have come to a coup in our history was when five members of the Supreme Court unilaterally made George W. Bush president, and we all accepted it with equanimity and said we'll have another election in four years. This talk of keeping AR15s under the bed to overthrow the government is treason, insanity or both.

    Adam don't you know it's ok for the Department of Homeland Security to buy 7000 automatic rifles, armoured vehicles and over 1 billion ammunition rounds but you can't exercise your Constitutionally protected rights? I suppose the Constitution is only the highest law in the land, it's not worth much. The deal is, I wouldn't do what he's doing but by standing up for the people's rights, he is supporting every American who values the Constitution, free speech, the right to silence, privacy etc

  • Oh the Irony

    I fully support Adam Kokesh's desire to still march and be arrested. Carrying in public without a permit is a felony offense in DC, and once convicted of a felony, this idiot will no longer be allowed to own firearms, which is probably a good thing.

    @Liberala
    you have no idea what Treason even means do you? put this into perspective, Obama signed the "Monsanto protection act" which gives Monsanto free range to plant any kind of gmo they want, even though gmo's have been linked to intestinal cancer, infertility, birth defects, tumors, and the list goes on and on. and this is the kind of food they expect us to eat? It's poison. Gmo's kill people. AND OBAMA KNEW ALL THIS. yet he still signed it.

    do your research before you open you liberal mouth. I'll be willing to bet you have never WORKED a day in your life.
