Rock Creek Park Deer Killing for Me, Not for Thee

Oh sure, the National Park Service is all about killing deer in Rock Creek Park most of the time. It just defeated a lawsuit intended to stop an upcoming deer slaughter in the park. But when an Average Joe  decides to kill some deer on his own, they throw a fit!

In a criminal information filed today, the U.S. Attorney's Office charges alleged hunting enthusiast Timothy Gaines with killing and injuring deer in Rock Creek Park despite a hunting ban. Gaines' weapon of choice, according to the document: a bow and arrow.

As recent D.C. political scandals have shown, criminal informations are usually filed when a defendant intends to plead guilty. Gaines' hearing is set for tomorrow.

The deer in the Park need to be culled but it needs to be done by the Park Service in a supervised manner. This guy is just plain stupid - harmful not just to the deer but to anyone walking in the Park. All we need is a bunch of yahoos trampling through the Park with guns and bows and arrows to shoot deer. I hope he pays a big find and does community service.

Just what we need. Walking the dog along a trial in Rock Creek Park and some clown plays William Tell, whizzing an arrow by someone's head while attempting Bambicide.

It's bad enough having to check the pooch - and yourself - for deer ticks every time you venture into the park, but now Robin F. Hood is shooting his arrow into the air. It falls to earth, who knows where?

    Good grief.
