Bar Cancels “Drink Like A Indian” Event, Replaces With Free Drinks

Bad news, brohans: McFadden's has canceled its controversial "Drink Like A Indian" (sic) promotion. In an email Friday night, the Pennsylvania Avenue bar apologized, sort of:

It has come to our attention that one of our Thanksgiving events has caused some concern to our guests. The Pilgrims and Indians party, originally scheduled for Tuesday November 20th, was intended to be a festive event to get into the holiday spirit, and was never meant to offend any ethnicity or group of individuals. We truly apologize for not being more sensitive to our loyal patrons whose support and enthusiasm has been appreciated throughout the years.

If you're disappointed about the disappearance of the dollar beer deal, don't worry. The bar is offering a "complimentary cocktail hour" instead from 8 p.m. to 9.

As long as McFadden's is rethinking its existing event themes, may I nominate Flannel Saturdays? Slogan: "Everyone looks good in flannel..."

I boggles the mind. So someone in management at McFadden's took a look at this poster and approved it, like "Hmmm...looks great to me! I can't foresee any problems resulting from this cartoony depiction of a Native American wearing a Plains-style headdress at Thanksgiving, or the phrase 'Drink like an Indian'! Let's go with it!". Wow.

How is it worse than a leprechaun image accompanied by a "drink like the Irish" logo?

This doesn't even make sense. Why would you want to party like a pilgrim? Wasn't their whole schtick being so morally oppressive and staid that England wanted them gone?
