George Washington University Booted From College Rankings

Don't screw around with U.S. News & World Report! That's the message today from the popular college ranking service, which has decided to drop George Washington University from its list this year after the university admitted last week it had inflated the number of freshmen who ranked at the top of their high school classes.

GWU will be unranked in the 2013 college rankings, and could return in 2014 if the data it provides U.S. News can be verified. This year, the school was ranked 51st.

The #gwu hashtag on Twitter is filled with the wails of GWU students. "Our online university looking logo now matches our online university level ranking," one remarked.

On the plus side, GWU is probably the best unranked school. On the downside, though, they're in pretty rough company. As student newspaper the Hatchet notes:

Other universities unranked this year include University of Phoenix Online, Alliant International University and California Institute of Integral Studies.

Not exactly company GWU wants to keep, especially if it's going to keep charging $45,000 a year.

    An unlisted number. How exclusive.

Nonetheless GWU retains its ranking amongst most expensive schools for undergraduate education. It's more expensive than many Ivy-League caliber schools.

In fact, Harvard and Princeton are not even on top 100 on a list that GWU is ranked #4 as the highest college tuitions.
