Kansas Star’s Blanket Redskins Ban Not So Blanket After All

There was a stir recently after the Kansas City Star made public its refusal to print the Washington Redskins' full name, on account of it being a vile slur. The paper's decision to just call the team "Washington" inspired Washington City Paper's own search for a new nickname. But the Star doesn't always follow its own rules.

Using newspaper-archive database Lexis-Nexis, Chicago Tribune reporter Eric Zorn points out that the Star published six instances of "Redskins" over the past three months, despite its ban. Still, good effort.

As for Washington City Paper, we'll be rigorous about using whatever we choose for the Redskins, so you should submit your idea. The field is still open—after all, you're competing with team names like "Dan Snyder > city paper for running this bull shit."
