At the Washington Post, 32 members of the Newspaper Guild have applied for buyouts. Freddy Kunkle, a co-chair of the Guild, tells us that “more than one dozen” of the Guild members taking buyouts are minorities, and of those, “most are black.”

Kunckle declined to give more information, since the Post may still choose to refuse some staffers a buyout package.

Overall, Kunkle wrote in a message to Guild members, “union reps are hearing that the number probably puts the total close to 50.”

Considering that newsrooms are shedding minority staffers like it’s going out of style, it’s not a surprise—if somewhat depressing—that the Post is following suit.

We’ve left a message with the paper to ask for comment.
