Bo Obama, Dissing D.C. Too?

Bo Obama, Dissing D.C. Too?

Back in October, your trustworthy hometown boosters here at Washington City Paper pondered the implications of Michelle Obama's having made her much-hyped Target outing to one of the chain's Virginia outposts—despite the fact that the District's Columbia Heights store is both larger in square footage and closer to the White House. Was the First Lady prowling for swing-state votes? Dissing D.C.? Or disappointingly partial to the suburban layout of Potomac Yards?

Now it seems that both the president and the first dog have gotten into the act, too. On Wednesday, the chief executive took his Portuguese water dog shopping at a Petsmart in the same Potomac Yards area—dealing yet another blow to the District's fragile retail self-esteem. And what's so wrong with that? Well, nothing. Except that, according to the trusty folks at Google Maps, that Petsmart is 5.6 miles (or 16 minutes by car) from the White House. The Petco in D.C.'s Cleveland Park, on the other hand, is a mere 2.9 miles (or 10 minutes by car). (Note: Travel times do not factor in having heavily armed secret service agents escorting your car through stoplights.)

Any time I go to the Potomac Yards shopping center I see more license plates from MD & DC than I do from VA. Y'all are always coming across the river to get the good o'l Virginia shopping in. Thanks for paying our sales tax.

I think it was more a logistical issue, seems much more convenient to go to the one out at Potomac vs Cleveland, it's worth the extra 5 or 6 minutes travel.

IM GLAD HE GOES TO VA. AND PAY THEM SORRY BASTURDS BACK BY STOPPING THEIR TRAFFIC FLOW AND JAMMIN THEIR STREETS LIKE THEY DO D.C. STREETS ON THE DAILY!

jm, I understand how you might feel, but DC only shits on itself... As a resident for over 46 years we are always crying about getting respect, but we don't have respect for ourselfs. For all the new comers to DC who don't understand the history of our city, we always had, and still have a very corrupt city government.

Our President realized it pretty quicky during the Fenty adminstration and now the Gray adminstration.

We will never have respect until we as residents demand a city government that works for the people and not for themselfs
