The Needle: Siri Will Help You Find Naked Ladies Edition

Dear Siri: Are you looking for abortion services in the District? Don't ask the iPhone 4S assistant Siri to help you find any of the clinics in town! Megan Carpentier writes: "Ask the Siri, the new iPhone 4 assistant, where to get an abortion, and, if you happen to be in Washington, D.C., she won’t direct you to the Planned Parenthood on 16th St, NW. Instead, she’ll suggest you pay a visit to the 1st Choice Women’s Health Center, an anti-abortion Crisis Pregnancy Center (CPC) in Landsdowne, Virginia, or Human Life Services, a CPC in York, Pennsylvania." Things Siri will return nearby results for? Viagra, weed, free blowjobs, and where to find naked ladies.  -3

Broken Window, Bloody Nose: A cab on Wisconsin Avenue and Western Ave hit a Mercedes and spun onto the sidewalk, flying up the steps to a building entrance. Amazingly: "Two people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses say a taxi passenger went to the hospital with a bloody nose, and the SUV driver also was taken to the hospital. No pedestrians were hurt." +2

Pay No Attention To The Man Under The Robe: The forthcoming Smithsonian African American history museum just received two curiously fitting donations: Ku Klux Klan robes. "One robe donated Monday comes from the late activist and writer Stetson Kennedy, who died in August six decades after he infiltrated the KKK and exposed its secrets. It was donated by Kennedy's widow, Sandra Parks, who said the story of the Klan needed to reach the broadest audience. The second robe belonged to Phineas Miller Nathaniel Wilds, a chaplain in the Klan. It was donated by his great-great-grandson Richard Rousseau." +2

One Less Place For Siri To Recommend...For Now: Louis Rogue, a strip club on K Street NW has closed for renovations. But fear not! It's just going to get fancy. "Owners George and Tony Sigalas hope to reopen in March as a more upscale strip club. The strip club resides on the second floor and the Sigalas brothers are seeking a tenant, possibly a restaurant, to lease the ground floor space." +2

Anti-abortion places like those rank much higher in map searches for the word "abortion" than PP, probably for political reasons (PP tries to emphasize their other services, or maybe they don't know how to do SEO). Just doing a google search near me for "abortions", PP doesn't show up until #4, after 2 "alternatives" places and one hit of indeterminate stance. I really doubt this is a neocon/Apple conspiracy.

Also, that article is terrible or at best one of those after-the-fact "I wasn't serious, it was satire/trololol". There's feminist writers / bloggers who do know how com-puters work, but that lady is not one of them.

Do all comments with the word "abortion" get sent to moderation hell?

@Keith B. Hmm, I don't know why your first comment didn't post. Will look into that.
