From Young & Hungry: Chefs Veg Out

Stefanie Gans talks to Logan Cox, executive chef at Ripple about vegetarian dishes:

Favorite Vegetable: Ramps. They have a short season and they grow wild everywhere and that makes them interesting to me. They're not quite onion-y, not quite garlicky. And you can eat them raw and pickled. I love pickled things.

Huh, I've never even heard of ramps. Intriguing. Read the rest to get a quick and dirty veggie recipe from Cox.

My favorite ramps story concerned a chef from West Virginia who was living in Brooklyn above a local FBI field office who had a friend ship him a box of freshly foraged ramps. The box when it arrived was so pungent that the FBI called in a biological threat team to deal with what they thought was a germ bomb left outside their door.

Don't remember where I read that.
